      Hi Jon,

We're very much working on the product still - we're also working on our other product called "iShuttr" - which will be available towards the end of the year. We have a lot of great things in the works and can't wait to announce the updated Popa unit along with our entire product line of awesome photography accessories!

      Thanks!!

Thanks for letting us know! We will look into the Verizon model and make sure the fitment is correct. The issue with the Verizon model is it's a tad bit thicker than the regular iPhone 4/4s. We've had other users get the unit onto their phone, but they had to bend the little plastic bumper that holds the phone in place when connected. It's made of plastic, so you should be able to get the phone in the unit without damaging it. Thanks again for the feedback!

I loved idea of POPA but I could not use it at all. I have Verizon iphone and it is so tight I can not connect it.
It scared me to break the phone.
It was totally waste of money for me.

      Hi everyone,

if you're having an kind of issues it's best not to just comment on this forum as it just goes into a stream of comments and makes it hard for use to email you / track things on an individual basis.

The best thing to do is set up a new ticket request at http://beepindustries.freshdesk.com/ and then we can get back to you better.

Look out for the update version 1.2.3 which fixes the occasional non firing issue - this update is rock solid and has been tested by our beta testers including photographers who used for days on end without problems - should be out this week.

      Thanks,

      Bren.

      Hi KB,

sorry about that - can you submit a support request via http:/beepindustries.freshdesk.com and we will sort it.

We have an app update waiting for approval in the app store that fixes the intermittent shutter issue and is now 100% reliable. Version 1.2.3 should be out this week all being well.

I got my POPA weeks ago, it doesn't work. I've emailed, posted here, sent messages via the contacts page on the website and still I've heard back nothing.

I don't want this anymore, I want a refund but no one will talk to me about making this right.

      Anyone listening?

    10. Missing_small

Creator Steve Jackson on December 25, 2011

Got my Popa a few days ago. Love the feel of it. Manufacturing is solid except the leather wrap in the handle was coming off around edges. Pushed it back down and hoping it stays put. A dab of glue might be needed. What type of glue would you recommend?

It is tough to get fingers into bottom to open and close the connector opening. Very tight fit so it's tough for the fingers to get a a good grip on the mechanism that closes the door. I'll get used to it.

What hurts the most is that the camera does not fire every time I push the big red button. I have to disconnect and reconnect the Popa each time to get it to fire again. Extremely frustrating. Especially today being Christmas. I hope this new revised app software fixes it. Didn't that problem come up in your trials with the current software?

Does the revised software permit video recording as well. I assumed the Popa would work for video as well.

      Thanks and good luck,
      Steve

Thanks, sounds good. What about the Popa not being able to close. Is that just the design or is it suppose to close again?

    12. R8_icon.small

Creator Haltek Industries on December 23, 2011

      Hi Christine,

we identified a bug in the app which would sometimes cause intermittent shutter firing. The good news is we've now fixed it and it's now 100% reliable. The new version 1.2.3 has been submitted to the app store and should hopefully be available in about a week. I would ask you wait to get this version then if you're still having problems we'll take it from there.

Creator Christine Bastian on December 23, 2011

Received my PoPa a few weeks ago. Was real excited as I have a disability which makes it difficult for me to take photos with my iPhone. Unfortunately I ran into a lot of problems with the Popa. First of all I can not get the Popa to close again. Is it suppose to stay open? I did not think so because all kinds of dust etc will settle in there making contact even harder.
And that is I think one of the main problems it does not make a good contact with my iPhone 4. 8 out of 10 photos do not work. I push the big red button but nothing happens. When I wiggle the Popa a bit and push my iPhone real hard into it it first gives me a totally darkened photo and the second one might be ok. Than if I rest it for a while it lost its' contact again. I truly disappointed. I hate writing negative reviews, I so wanted to love it and spread so much love about the Popa before it even was released, so it definitely hurts. I figured I should write it, maybe others will have the same problem and you can use this feedback.

Creator Haltek Industries on December 21, 2011

      Hi Peter,

thank for this considered and constructive feedback. I hear you on the anodised finish; strangely we went for a rougher finish on purpose to differeniate from the Apple finish to give it a more retro finish, but a few people have commented on this so we might take another look at that.

Yeah agreed the barrel twist is a little fiddly, and came about when we added the tripod mount. Not ideal but again something we'll aim to tweak in a future iteration.

Video is coming - it's on the roadmap for the app and scheduled for 1.4 all being well and we've got some really great new features coming in 1.3+. Right now we're working on some stability fixes which will be released in version 1.2.3 There's also other tweaks we're working on including UI tweaks and better saving multiple items to the photo album.

As for the red pouch we were advised by the printers that white on red just doesn't work well in the way they were printing it, but it was actually our original option! Hopefully we can make that happen eventually.

No your comments aren't negative - I appreciate comments like these that recognise this is an iterative project, like a lot of design. I'm really proud that we actually shipped this product, albeit a few months late, but we still shipped. We know we've got more work to do to get it where we want it to be but by listening to the feedback and support from people like yourself then I think we can get there.

And yeah I'll be taking a little bit of time of over the festive period!

      Merry Christmas!

      Bren.

Popa arrived here some weeks ago already and now that your product is out in the wilderness, i guess you´re interested in feedback. First of all: congratulations on finishing the project and putting together such a complete box of industrial and packaging design plus software. I know this was not a short distance run, but a full marathon and you must feel similarly exhausted and happy.
So what do i think of Popa? In a nutshell, I like it, but i don´t love it, which is maybe a matter of details and the manufacturing. First thing i noticed was the anodized surface which looked a little too rough and had a lot of imperfection, especially striking when you see it lying beside a MacBook pro. Paired with imperfections of the glued leather (bump at the outer edge towards the slot), it made Popa appear a little cheaper than necessary. From a usability perspective, i actually had problems to find out how to actually open the barrel. I don´t have very big hands, but the space around the tripod thread is really small and doesn´t signal its function - i think it takes too long to make Popa ready that way. Once open and attached to the iphone, things work flawlessly most of the time, the new update of the app is greatly improved, the self-timer is great. What i dislike here is the missing video option and the "developing" dialog when viewing the pictures - i don´t know if there´s a technical reason behind it, but it´s really tiring. The Popa box, certainly inspired by Apple, looks great with the white wrapper and the b/w photos on red below and gives the desired dramaturgy. Being a graphic designer, i´d suggest a reshooting of the hand photography on the "Twist" side, though - it´s not very sexy. And as much as i love variation in corporate design, i think the pouch would have been a lot better in red with white screen print, just as a big signal to take it with you.
Does that sound too negative? It´s not meant that way, i really think you´ve achieved something impressive with Popa and wish you a well deserved rest over Christmas time. Cheers!

It definately works with iPhone 4S! It sounds like your popa may be defective. I understand your dissapointment but we can sort you out. Lots of people are loving popa on iPhone 4 and 4S but occasionally things can go wrong. We are not Apple - we're just two people trying to create something against the odds, something we believe in. We will sort it out.

      Hi

Popa is being sent from our uk warehouse so that's why some people may get two separate deliveries. All orders have been sent.

As for Belkin, we just have the one button. Yes the Belkin one is cheaper but they have economies of scale and didn't need to launch on Kickstarter! Personally the Belkin one is ugly as hell, but I guess it's subjective like anything.

Where's Popa? Got my t-shirt but still no POPA. Any advice on what to do? Also, used the Belkin LiveAction Grip for iPhone at an Apple store. Very nice piece. Does the POPA have 2 shutters in the grip? The LiveAction has a big button for photos and a smaller one video. Quite handy. Also allows me to keep my grip case on while device is attached. Also has a tripod fitting on bottom of grip. Were these features incorporated into POPA?? Uses proprietary App just like POPA. Camera+ integration coming to LiveAction (so says Apple Store buyer who was at store that day). Price for Belkin LiveAction grip is $49 (but can get it for $35 online). Anxious to compare my POPA to Belkin's LA Grip. >>>Come to POPA!! Steve

Boo!!! I had to pay nearly $20 in duty, taxes, and handling fees to the Canadian Border Services Agency, based on Beep's declared valuation of $75USD. If you are still awaiting delivery of your POPA, be aware that your friendly postman may come knocking on your door with a bill in hand. This appears to impact those not in the UK or US.

Just received my Popa, and found myself paying an aditional 65$ in Norwegian customs, because you have written the items inside to have a value of 99$ and being a commercial item. If I understand the Kickstarter concept correctly, our sponsorships are, well, sponsorships and not purchases. All other projects I have backed (and they are a few) have managed to understand this - meaning the parcels are marked as a gift to save us customs.

      Hi Ivo,

we always made it very clear that POPA would only work with the POPA app; it's not possible to make an accessory to work without an app. We would love it to work with the camera app but it's just not technically possible.

Hopefully eventually it will be integrated into other apps. Camera + got in touch with us right at the beginning and we wrote back to them three times and never heard back.

But don't despair - the new version of the app is really great and has been submitted to the app store for approval. It takes the app to the next level, and of course we're already on with the next version after that as we'll be constantly iterating and listening to feedback.

As for breaking the phone - don't worry we've done a lot of testing and it should be fine. It's a tight fit so it doesn't wobble and doesn't create camera shake.

Glad you appreciate the design and hope you carry on using it - like I said new app is killer and should be out in a week or so.

I am disappointed that the Popa only works with the Popa App and not with the standard Camera App or any other Camera App (like Camera+).
