To stay open, the Midway Drive-In will need to buy a digital projector at a total cost of over $125,000.00.

The movie industry is switching to movies run on digital projectors. 2012 may be the last year the Midway Drive-In will receive 35mm prints of first run films. This conversion is required for all Drive-Ins and theaters if they want to continue to show first run movies. These digital projectors are VERY expensive. To stay open, the Midway will need to buy a digital projector.
This is a total cost of over $125,000.00 for us.
Since we are an independently owned, seasonal Drive-In theater, the Midway will have to pay these costs on its own. The Midway Drive-In is a labor of love which is operated as a community service. That amount of money is simply not in our operating budget.
We have worked hard to preserve the Midway Drive-In. Now, we need your help to keep the Midway Drive-In open.
Converting to Digital Projection
The conversion to digital projection includes purchasing a digital projector and supporting systems such as a digital sound system and maintaining the proper electrical requirements. Additionally, the proper physical environment needs to be maintained in the booth including weatherproofing and installing a separate heating/air-conditioning system with humidity controls.

The Midway Drive-In Preserves America’s Greatest Pastime!
There were once over 4,000 Drive-Ins. Today, less than 400 remain. It is estimated that half of all Drive-In theaters in the country will close because of the upcoming digital conversion.
We are dedicated to preserving the Midway Drive-In for future generations, but now we need your help.
The American Drive-In theater has always been and continues to be a vital part of the American culture. The Drive-In represents family values and a memory of more innocent times. A trip to the Midway Drive-In is an amazing experience! You can arrive early and relax with your family or friends in the comfort of your own car. Your children can play on our playground and you will enjoy the beautiful nature setting surrounding the Drive-In. In between features, families enjoy the nostalgic intermission with retro short subjects including the famous dancing hot dogs! You will be watching a film in the most stunning movie auditorium ever created – “Nature’s Auditorium under the Stars”.
The Midway Drive-In also features special showings of classic films and community-oriented events.
The Midway Drive-In opened in August 1950 and is a genuine historical landmark. When it opened, World War II vets took their families there. Baby boomers grew up there, and then took their families to the Midway Drive-In. The Midway Drive-In has remained in constant operation ever since.

The Midway Drive-In offers two first run films at a very low admission price (lower than the cost of ONE movie at an indoor theater in fact).
A night at the Midway is a full evenings worth of entertainment. We present double features at family-friendly admission prices. Our concession stand offers reasonably priced dinner and snack items.
