The film captures the plight of a man, suffering from memory loss, as he tries to cling to his memories, only to watch them fade away.
Charles, an elderly man with Alzheimer's, sits in a nursing home trapped in the experience of his last concrete memory: a fishing trip from his youth. He is released from this memory when his wife comes to care for him. As he interacts with her, he drifts into his remaining memories of their time together and realizes these memories are quickly crumbling away. Thus begins his hopeless struggle to retain all memory of his time spent with his wife. He desperately tries to hold onto these memories but finds that he is losing all knowledge of her. As his earliest memory of her erodes, he falls back into the boyhood fishing trip. A woman appears, and though he desperately tries to find her amongst his memories, it is too late
This film is one that has been on my mind for several years and is very much a personal story. It is inspired by the last memories I have of my grandfather, who suffered from Alzheimer's.
This film basically serves as my thesis for my Cinematography concentration and will be one of my first opportunities to shoot on 35mm film. I am currently trying to raise at least $500 to devote mostly towards production design. I feel really confident in the script, the director, and the crew to pull off a great film, and good production design will bring it a long way as well. Any extra funds will be set towards processing and transfer fees for the film.
I will be shooting November 18-21 at various locations around DeKalb, IL.
