About this project

"Myshkin's 7th record, 5 years in the making - dark and delicate revolutionary love songs, barefoot in a tango-tronic dancing dress."

i started this, my 7th record, way back in the last decade—2006. thinking, "i'll take some time with this one, maybe get it out next year." then the tracks switched underneath my wheels, and the next thing i knew i had left the city, moved to the mountains, helped to found a permaculture / art community, and built an earth walled studio, all of which does take some time. see the video for a taste of all that. then i got back to the record—almost 6 years for one record! i doubt i would have managed to continue the project to completion without the relentless inspiration of the tracks gifted by the following amazing artists. That Diamond Lust features performances by:

  • Sailor Banks: upright bass, beats, synth, piano
  • Jesse Brooke: drums
  • Paul Evans: soprano sax, organ
  • Neti Vaan: violin
  • Helen Gillet: cello
  • Gwendolyn Coleman: percussion
  • Luke Brechtelsbauer: harp
  • Sarahmin Dunbar: theremin
  • Heather Perkins: ebow guitar
  • Skip von Kuske: cello

Sugar Short Wave did some co-production, and Mike West is mixing the record. and Myshkin? everything else, including things i never tried before.

i tend to make thematic records and That Diamond Lust follows suit. (it's not about diamonds.) many of the songs were written in the wake of loss and for a while i thought i should call it "saddest record of the year", but then something happened. loss transformed to, well, many things, and i started sculpting away at the music until the songs turned lacey enough to see light through. until they turned so light they could catch an updraft and float.

so this is my request for your assistance. to get this long story of a record out of my hands and floating out into the world. to breathe on it and watch it go. i have a logjam of songs waiting to get out of my head once this one is done, and it's starting to get full in here! my funding goal of $3,300 will: pay those artists i haven't yet compensated, pay for mixing, mastering and pressing the record, and postage costs for reward cd's. if by some chance more comes in, i do have a plan! $6,000 would do all that plus support a national release and ruby warblers u.s. tour in spring 2012. $9,000 would do all that plus a european tour in fall 2012. here's to big plans and happy music lovers! cheers, thanks, gracias, arigato and dank u wel!

music is my steady date, my magic wand. i started singing for a living in new orleans in 1993. from then til 2007 i toured tenaciously, traveling anywhere someone offered a few bucks and a room, the further flung the better. i have played with many stunning artists, live and in the studio, have released 6 well received cd's of my songs, and a few collaborative ones. i moved to oregon in 2002 and now live in the mythical state of jefferson, the road calling my name. i almost always accept invitations to travel somewhere nice and play some tunes.
