Primae Noctis is an unique, epic-length, science fiction novel that I have researched and written over the past two years. It is the first of three books in what I have titled The Once and Future Lords trilogy. The remaining titles, Tempus Belli and Corpus Novus, are in various stages of draft and planned for release over the coming years. These novels will be a direct continuation of the story that begins in Primae Noctis, which is more than 200,000 words stand-alone.
So what's so unique about your story?
Primae Noctis is set 60 years after the Calamity, a crisis of war, disease, famine, and sudden ecological shift that leads to the deaths of more than 99% of the world's 13.6
billion inhabitants. With the guidance of the Archonae, the survivors
have formed an idyllic new society of secure and protected cities
designed to elevate humanity to it's full potential and to prevent the problems of the past from
recurring. However, not everyone is content with life in the new
utopia. Join a rich and detailed cast of characters as they begin to unravel the truths about the world in which they live.
You'll need to read it to decide for yourself if it qualifies as a truly dystopic vision of the future, or something else entirely. From the perspective of style, the narrative portions of the novel are presented with excerpts from an alternative history that details the technological, political, social, religious, military, and sexual norms and stories from the future world.
What flavor of science fiction is your book?
A hard and soft swirl on a waffle cone. Although Primae Noctis has most of the hallmark characteristics of the hard subgenre, I believe that my novel has a rare focus that considers the social and political values of the world that it depicts. I created the work's detailed future history as a way to examine how the seeds of developments in our world today may bear bitter fruit in the future.
As a true sci-fi novel, there are plenty of well-conceived future technologies and a tasteful modicum of fornication and violence throughout the work. Fantasy readers may be interested in the novel for the epic scale of the story.;
Primae Noctis is written for an adult audience. I hope to eventually be able to bring this to a much wider audience on papyrus or stone tablets, but I will start with an e-book on Amazon.com and other online e-tailers.
So give us the pitch, already...
Why I have come to Kickstarter? The next two months are critical in attracting competent, third-party editing support to my self-publishing effort. I will also need support to cover basic promotional expenses to spread the word about the novel, such as simple online advertising, and other expenses in a few key areas:
- Professional editing hire and related expenses.
- The development/production of promo materials and the website.
- General business and public relations expenses.
A final request...
If you can't pledge your support to this project financially, it would be deeply appreciated if you could visit the novel's Facebook page to "Like" this effort and spread the word to others that enjoy science fiction such as this. You could also follow me on Twitter to further spread the word to your fellow netizens.
Putting your work out there for others is always a very revealing experience. This is probably the first time in my life where I've really put it all on the line to see what the universe would have to say about what I've written, and there's no way to go back now. I am an eternal realist, but I am also eternally real in my desire to be an optimist.

FAQ
-
At what value are words? Working to edit a 200,000 or more word hard science fiction novel with deep-level continuity and complex story is a difficult task. I have received quotes from a few editors regarding Primae Noctis, and they expect to be compensated reasonably for the amount of time that such effort and consideration will take.

If you've read the preview of Primae Noctis, you will understand that the novel's pacing and level of detail lend itself to a long-form presentation. Cutting Primae Noctis up into chunks would probably irritate readers, as the events of the story are designed to take place over a specified time frame within a vast and detailed future world.
Serialization works well for some stories, but not all stories. Not to mention that there are already two more novels yet to come of equal detail and length. -
No money will be charged to your credit card, as this project is an all-or-nothing proposition, just like all Kickstarter projects.

All electronic version rewards (PDF and e-book) will be delivered directly to your email account. Fulfillment of print on-demand editions of Primae Noctis will come to you direct from Amazon. In the case of signed editions, these copies will be delivered via a helpful relative based in Nevada.

Keep strong and carry on. It would probably take me another year or more to scrape and save the funds to move this project forward without backing. I will strive to get there eventually, regardless of outcome, because I firmly believe that there are good number of people out there who would really enjoy reading Primae Noctis.

Sure I do. But to be honest, I would be perfectly content to achieve the goal that I have listed as it is what I really need. As for stretch goals, I guess we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it...
