A young boy helps other kids grow up by "killing" their Imaginary Friends...

"Ashamed of your imaginary friend?  Ready to finally grow up?  Robbin will take care of it all for the low price of just $9.99"

Robbin Latchkey is only eleven years old, but he's been sentenced to life in prison for the terrible crime of "killing" his schoolmate's imaginary friends...

You see in Robbin's world, children are capable of calling into reality anything from their imaginations.  Unfortunately this caused the birth of some unsavory creatures to say the least.  It wasn't long before we were outnumbered and overpowered by the terrifying Figments of our children's overactive imaginations.

Robbin lives in the last remaining human city on earth, a walled metropolis guarded from the supposed horrors beyond.  In order to further protect society, every child is administered a pre-existing Figment (imaginary friend), specifically designed to keep their assigned child in check, until the day he or she is deemed "grown up."

So is Robbin Latchkey a murderer?  The evidence is still inconclusive...

Unfortunately, as awful as it sounds, Robbin really had no choice.  After his mother and father disappeared several months ago, Robbin was forced to find some way of supporting himself, even if it meant the unsavory job of snuffing out these unwanted Figments.

But when all seems lost, young Robbin is offered one final chance at redemption.  You see, recently little children have been disappearing all over the city.  It appears that some of the more sinister creatures from beyond the city walls are looking to turn the tables on exactly who is who's imaginary friend.

So it's up to Robbin Latchkey to journey into the unknown, save the missing children, and if convenient, come back alive...

Hello prospective backers!  My name is Braxten Rutherford and I’d like to introduce you to a boy named Robbin Latchkey…

What originally started as a side project to put on the back burner until a few years down the line has turned into something that needs to be much more immediate.  Through Robbin Latchkey, I want to test the waters of publishing on my own terms before entering the arena with the big boys.

I have decided to self publish the first book in the Robbin Latchkey series with Kickstarter funds for two reasons.  First, so that I can get it out there and into reader's hands as quickly as possible, and second, so that I can support myself while I keep hammering away on some of my other writing projects.

This is also my opportunity to write something skewed towards a younger audience, even if the premise might seem a little dark at first glance.  You see I believe that children need to be challenged through storytelling.  My favorite books growing up were the ones that I felt weren't talking down to me, the ones that treated me as an equal partner in the journey.  This is an empowering adventure for all ages that celebrates the wonders and the wisdom of youth.  Fans of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events will probably enjoy the tone of this one.

Oh, and backers of any level will have the special opportunity to actually help me shape the final book through occasional surveys and polls.  During the writing process, I will be constantly updating you on my progress, and giving backers a sneak peek at illustrations and character bios.

(I will both write and illustrate the final book)

Again, this exclusive first run of ROBBIN LATCHKEY will be entirely self published.  Each individual copy of the book will be purchased by me with funds gained from Kickstarter.  Eventually I will submit the Robbin Latchkey series to a proper publisher, but for now this is it folks.

So thank you for even clicking on over here, it means the world to me really!  I appreciate any support you can give to this project, and I really hope you join me on this journey.

Thanks everyone,

-Braxten Rutherford
