Update #21: Final hours...
We're approaching the final chance to help us meet our Kickstarter goal. As you might know, we need to raise our entire goal in order to receive any of the $1,700 raised so far. So whatever you can do.... And if there's a reward I can provide that you don't find on my list, just write me at gedgers@mac.com to suggest it.

Update #20: Boston Magazine coverage, week remaining on campaign
As we approach next week's TV premiere (WGBH, Channel 2 Boston - 9 p.m.), we're starting to get some good coverage. Here's one of my favorite pieces so far, from Boston Magazine.
And now a bit of business. We've got just a week left on our Kickstarter campaign and we're only halfway there. So do whatever you can - $1, $5, $8904 - to help push us over the edge.

Update #19: New Reward: Andrew Sandoval package
A new reward as we head down the home stretch. Andrew Sandoval, '60s pop authority and the man responsible for the recent slew of Kinks reissues, has signed copies of his definitive book on the Monkees and one of his solo cds. We're 11 days away and half way to our $3,000 goal, so every little bit helps.

Update #18: A new reward...
Doug Hinman, author of "The Kinks: All Day and All of the Night: Day by Day Concerts, Recordings, and Broadcasts, 1961-1996," has generously agreed to sign copies of his book in exchange for a $60-or-better contribution to our TV Kickstarter campaign.

This book really is the Kinks bible, the most authoritative document of our favorite band's daily activities. It was a priceless resource for us while making DO IT AGAIN.
Just 16 days to go and we're still inching toward our goal.

Update #17: WGBH screening time...
Great news for folks in Boston. We're going to be making our TV premiere on Sept. 15 at 9 p.m. on WGBH.

We'll bring you other screening times as we get them.

Update #16: The final campaign!
Well, we can only hope so. I'm sure some of you feel besieged by my cries for help. But we are getting near the end and, with that in mind, I've launched what I hope will be my final DO IT AGAIN campaign. The good news: We have a TV version ready and eight PBS markets have bought in. We're hoping for more, provided we can convince them that DO IT AGAIN is more compelling viewing than the latest Sha Na Na reunion.
What can you do? If you've got a few spare bucks, send him our way. If you don't, totally understood. You have already all been so generous. Move making is expensive and I've made peace with the fact I will never make my investment back. But I am hoping to not add any more debt to that line. Hence, THE FINAL CAMPAIGN!

Update #15: Donations for TV cut...
We're a week out from our fabulous screening in Wichita. Even if you can't make it - and you should come, it's only in Kansas! - you can help by making a donation through the Tallgrass invitation. Any amount helps!
And all of the Kickstarter rewards apply...

Update #14: Kansas - The latest step for "Do It Again"
I never know whether to post updates here or if you've all migrated to our Facebook page. But I figure an update here couldn't hurt.
Next week marks exactly a year since we made our film festival premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. It has been a wild year with ups (many) and downs (okay, a few) that I never anticipated. Bottom line: We couldn't be happier with the support you, our crowd-funding heroes, have provided us with.
For a series of not-really-complicated-reasons, DO IT AGAIN's release status remains up in the air.
Basically, for us to put this movie out on DVD, in theaters, for digital download, etc., we need to agree to licensing terms with Ray (the chief Kinks songwriter) and the record companies which own his work. We've come up with a decent financial structure with the record companies. Now, we have to wait for Ray's response. He's got a DVD, he's been asked to watch it. If he gives a thumbs up, we look to raise money to pay for more licensing. Thumbs down, I'm going to become a huge Herman's Hermits fan.
In the meantime, we have figured out a way to bring at least some of DO IT AGAIN to more people. We're looking to create a one-hour cut - the current movie is 85 minutes long - that can be syndicated to public television stations. The beauty of that is we don't need permission to show this or a big pocket full of $100 bills. We just need to cut the film, which we've started doing.
And though it might strike some as odd, we're getting some help from an unlikely place: Kansas. Namely, the Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita, where we showed DIA back in October, is hosting a special screening and also raising money for us.
Here's a link to their press release and also a place to donate.

http://tallgrass-do-it-again.eventbrite.com/
Of course, if I were you I'd just come to Kansas. We'll be there. There'll be a party. And I promise... free buttons!
Over and out and God Save the Kinks!

Update #13: Do It Again, TV cut
Hello supporters... Long time no chatting.
Some of you have met me at one of our 100+ screenings in the last year. Some have merely communicated with me over e-mail.
But all of you have played a vital role in bringing an idea to the big screen.
And now, I'm asking for your help in bringing "Do It Again" to the small screen.
We have an offer to create a 57-minute cut for national syndication. We also think this shortened version of the film will be an easier sell to broadcasters around the world.
We're not trashing the full, 85-minute version of "Do It Again," which has garnered rave reviews in the Huffington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Globe, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Variety, Ain't It Cool News and other places. But we want to make sure that our movie can be seen by as many people as possible.
Think of it as the equivalent of the radio edits of "Hey Jude" and "Heroes."
So where do you come in?
We need to raise about $5,000 to make our cuts, acquired Error & Omissions insurance and lay the whole thing down to tape. We're considering launching another Kickstarter drive. But before we do, we want to make one last go around to our supporters and see if they've up for another pledge.
What can we offer?
I have a one-of-a-kind, full size "Do It Again" poster signed by Sting and Zooey Deschanel. I'd part with it for $1,000. We have lots of our promotional 45 records (Figgs leader Mike Gent doing "Victoria/Big Sky") featuring artist Dave Plunkert's original art sleeve. We have 8 by 12 versions of the Plunkert poster. And those would all be available for a gift of $50 or more.
We have a few (very few) of the full size posters left for $300.
If you want to contribute, let me know at gedgers@mac.com. And if you don't, still know that I remain eternally grateful for your help thus far.

How about a DVD? Living in a far flung region of the UK means I'm unlikely to ever see Do It Again...

Agreed, I'd consider backing if I could get the digital download or DVD for a fair price.

Update #12: Hello, Cleveland
We've just been accepted into the Cleveland International Film Festival. It runs from March 18-28.

Update #11: Do It Again screenings
So I'm sorry for the radio silence.
I wish I could explain, in 50 words, how challenging it has been to deal with the creative and business aspects of getting a film finished. But why bore everybody? We have great news...
“Do It Again,” about my (perhaps) irrational quest to reunite the Kinks, will be making its world premiere at the Rotterdam International Film Festival on Jan. 28. The film of my journey includes testimonies and music from Sting, Zooey Deschanel, Paul Weller, Robyn Hitchcock, Clive Davis, Peter Buck, Scott McCaughey, Warren Zanes and… Kinks fans everywhere...
The film will also be playing in Rotterdam on January 30 and 31 at the festival. Here are the specific dates and theaters:
01/28/2010 19:15 Pathé 5
01/30/2010 13:00 Pathé 1
01/31/2010 09:45 Cinerama 7
You can start ordering tickets online on 22nd of January through the website of the film festival: www.iffr.nl
Even if you can’t see the film in Rotterdam, we’ve already been invited to show the film at other festivals, including the Glasgow Film Festival (screening Feb. 21) and in my hometown in April at the Boston Independent Film Festival.
The best thing about the Boston screening: The theater serves beer!
Feel free to get in touch with any questions and I do hope to see some you at a screening.

If you are going to Rotterdam, you should definitely consider going to Berlin as well. http://www.berlinale.de/en/HomePage.html :) Great pitch video.

Update #10: Film Festival!
So the good news is... "Do It Again" has been accepted into its first film festival. The bad news is I can't say where or when yet. (I can promise you it is *not* Sundance.) It's a great festival, though, and one we'll be proud to have our international premiere at...
That means we have to get back into the editing room and rework some sections of the film, do a proper sound mix and prepare all the publicity items - posters, postcards, website - that come with launching a film.
Thanks for all of our support. And we'll hopefully be able to keep updating you throughout the rest of the year.
Geoff
Update #9: Death of You Tube clip
A sign of progress disguised as a disappearance. The clip still up on this site - though perhaps not for long - has been yanked off You Tube. We obliged after being asked to by Sony, which holds the licensing on many of the Kinks songs we're looking to use in the film. (We could have paid the five grand to license a preview, but I figured that clip has done its job, is super old and that you all would prefer we put out cash toward getting closer to getting the movie out. The good news: The licensing process has begun.
For anybody who has ever dealt with this aspect of the business - the waiting, the nagging, the paying - that's ALSO the bad news.
Geoff
Update #8: Backers, Seek Ye Rewards
First, another thanks for helping me meet my goal.
Now, the fun part. If you gave at a certain level, you will receive the gift specified. If it's a children's book, let me know 1. which you'd like (Elvis or the Beatles) and 2. the name of the child you want me to sign it to and 3. your mailing address. Our posters aren't ready yet but they're coming along and I'm also holding off on our surprise gift, as I haven't finished it.
But do write. Geoff
Update #7: Thanks...
You all have been so generous and kind to contribute to the project. I can't tell you how much it has meant. Today, I sent out the first slew of film festival applications. Sundance is on there. Maybe I'm out of my mind, but we'll see if we have a chance in Park City.
I'll continue updating as news comes in. But for now, I'm going to get to the reams of paperwork and (gasp) a story I need to do for my regular job.
