Joshua Rofé was born in Brooklyn, New York. Discovering the films of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Martin Scorsese, John Cassavetes, and Werner Herzog set him on the path of making films. It was the sense of urgency and brutal honesty in their respective works that inspired and helped shape him as a filmmaker. After hearing a story from a friend’s father, who is a judge, about a 15-year-old girl he had sentenced to Life Without Parole, Rofé knew what his next film would be. WHEN I DIE, PLEASE SEND ME HOME is his first documentary.
