There are three major things I've been looking for in an iPhone case:
1) Added functionality (besides that of just being a case)
2) A wide open bottom portion of the "bumper" so that the iPhone can easily dock
3) A full wrap-around bumper so that the case also protects the screen on the iPhone
#1 is obviously already covered

Yes Harry, the Phinglet can be attached/detached from the provided case easily. You simply insert it through the hole and you take it off in reverse at any time. There is no adhesive involved and you can use the case with or without the Phinglet at any time per your wish. I will add a video showing this soon.
