BBQ Vital Info: July 28th Approach-eth!
We're so excited to see those of you who can make it to our BBQ on July 28th! You'll find all you need to know about the event below, and over the course of this week you will all receive your mixtapes, so you can listen to them on the way up!
THE SHANDAKEN PROJECT BBQ
Saturday, July 28th
3p to 11p
4p to 6p: Lawn and pond games
6p to 8p: BYO BBQ or buy some from us
10p: Bonfire and performance
In case of heavy rain, our BBQ will be postponed to the following Saturday, August 4. We will send another "update" via Kickstarter to alert you should this come to pass.
WHAT TO BRING
The most important thing we can tell you is to bring enough water for your entire stay. For legal reasons, we cannot admit BBQ guests to the residency house, and the water from our hoses is not safe to drink: so this means it's all up to you. There will be portable toilet facilities on the property for guests. But there will not be any available electric outlets for guests' use.
There will be food and beer for sale, or you can bring your own. Otherwise, guests should expect to bring all they anticipate needing, such as sunscreen, bug spray, flashlights, water, and tents/sleeping bags (except for those who took advantage of our special $75 and $150 donation levels, for whom we will provide the tents/bags). We regret that candles and oil lanterns will not be allowed. We will provide some games and balls and things of that nature, but if you have anything in that department to use or share, please bring it!
There is a useful map of nearby stores and restaurants at www.shandakenproject.org/kickstarter/map.pdf that you can download at your convenience.
We will have burgers, dogs, and a veggie option, or whole BBQ plates, available for reasonable prices from 6p to 8p. We will also have a few charcoal grills available if you would like to bring your own food to cook. Please note you must bring your own charcoal if you bring your own food to grill. We will also have beer for sale at a reasonable price throughout the day. You may also bring your own (adult or otherwise) beverages. Please bring all the water you anticipate needing.
ADDITIONAL TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE
If you have a friend that would like to come to the BBQ but has not yet purchased a ticket, it's no problem! We will have tickets for sale at the check-in desk. They will cost $20 for a daytime ticket, or $50 for two people overnight. We will not have tents or sleeping bags for sale or for borrowing at the event. Please remember that the $15 and $25 donation levels do not come with a "plus one."
You will find directions from the New York State Thruway (I-87) at www.shandakenproject.org/aboutdirections.html. The Thruway is the quickest way to the project from New York City (take it northbound) and from NADA Hudson (take it southbound).
There is a bus from New York City to Phoenicia (the closest town to the project), but you must make advance arrangements with a local taxi company to reach the project from the bus stop. We cannot provide transportation to or from Phoenicia. Please visit the link above for more information and bus schedules.
Guests are invited to park along our quarter-mile-long driveway. We expect it to fill up fast! Please come early if you would rather not park on the street, and please make every effort to car pool. Send us a message at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested to meet other BBQ guests who want a car pool buddy. Please include in your message whether you have room in your car (for splitting gas prices), or are looking for someone with whom to share a rental car.
Guests may pick the location of their own tents, on a first come, first served basis. Please bear in mind that the residency is in the wilderness, and wild animals do live on our property alongside us. They are mostly uninterested in people, but we encourage overnight guests to pitch their tents close to the house.
Please be mindful that the Shandaken Project strives for a low degree of impact on the land which it occupies. There will be plenty of trash and recycle bins on the property: please use them. Otherwise we ask that guests honor the hiker's code: "If you bring it in when you come, bring it out when you leave."
