We're a group of NYC kids excited by the future of Silicon Alley and looking to excite others like us. Visit hackNY.org for more info!
Hi! We are:
Akiva Bamberger, president of ACM@CU & ADI@CU and a student at CU;
Stanis Billy, president of ACM@CCNY and a student at CCNY;
Eric Hong, president of ACM@NYU and a student at NYU; and
Trevor Owens, president of Tech@NYU and a student at NYU.
We're working together to host HackNY.org --- NYC's first intercollegiate hackathon in partnership with local tech startups. Students (undergrad and grad) are invited to a 24-hour hackathon at NYU April 2-3, 7pm-7pm, and all NYC startups are invited to submit to demo their hot technologies, share their APIs and data, and impress NYC's next generation of code powerhouses, many of whom will be looking for summer internships. The hackathon will be held on the top floor of Warren Weaver Hall at NYU, home to the Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences. Admission is free for NYC-area* undergrad and grad students. Just email springhack@hackny.org. Please include your full name, University, class year, and major. (Sorry, alumni: current students only.)
The hackathon is part of HackNY.org's mission to federate NYC students with NYC startups by facilitating a summer internship program and building a community among the next generation of NYC hackers. Starting in 2010, the summer program includes pedagogical lectures as well as dinners with local and nonlocal upstarts, hackers, and founders.
For this kickstarter project, we are hoping to raise at least $2000 for the hackathon, covering:
* Four meals and snacks for at least 50 students over the course of the 24 hour event (estimated cost $1,250);
* Awards and Prizes for the top 3 teams (estimated cost $500); and
* Transportation reimbursement for up to 15 students from outside of NYC (estimated cost $750).
Any additional funds raised will go to:
* Food for the remaining students (the room capacity is 150 and we anticipate more than 50 students hacking): $2000
* Up to 100 t-shirts for students, sponsors, and participating startups (estimated cost $1200).
Additional donations of things hackers love are welcome -- please contact info@hackny.org with your idea.
We will market the event through faculty and club presidents at universities including: NYU, Columbia, City College, Cooper Union, Brown, Yale, Princeton, and UPenn.
* "NYC-area" should be broadly construed. Penn, Brown, etc., all a-OK.
