Dear Don, I am a happy and proud owner of one 15W SunVolt! The device charges one iPad and one iPhone at the same time, also plays very fancy at the beach and camping. Many people came to ask how it works and where I purchased it.
It really is over my expectations!!
I would like to know if there's any way to use it to keep charging a car battery while parked under the sun, that could be a very interesting use, specially for electric cars, as any % of extra power could help.
Best and Warm Regards from Brazil

Hi there Don! Some weeks ago the SunVolt arrived to Argentina. We have tested it conscientiously and we are very happy! Congratulations for such a fine product. Thank you.
Creator Don Cayelli on December 5
@William. I too, have mostly Apple devices and I assure you that it works great with them (especially with the battery pack). I have sent you an email to troubleshoot your issue so that we can figure out what is going on with your system.
Creator William Surkis on December 4
Hey there - I'm very pleased with the product you sent - very efficient! I did buy the battery as well. The problem is that it will not charge a single one of my Apple devices - each displays the message described below (not supported...). This is a big deal as we live in a 100% Apple technology environment and need the panel to work with the iPhone/iPad. Please let us know how you will be addressing this. Thanks!
Creator Don Cayelli on November 12, 2012
@Troy/Jon/Clarence - I've sent you all emails through out email system to troubleshoot your issue. @Tim - Welcome back! Glad the Sunvolt helped you through your trip!
Creator Tim Chandler on November 11, 2012
Hi, Tim here, and I am back from Mexico mission trip. Great trip!! Used the Sunvolt almost every day. Kept everything charged and happy. Again, Don, thanks for making sure I had it
Creator Troy Weets on November 10, 2012
Hello, just a question to follow up on Clarence's inquiry below. Anytime I try to charge any of my Apple devices, I get the "charging is not supported for this accessory message." It is happening on an older iPod touch, two new iPhone 5s, a 3rd and 4th gen iPad. It does work on my much older HTC Hero phone, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of firmware conflict that is preventing it from working with the apple devices, or am I doing something wrong. It is getting enough sunlight to charge the HTC sufficiently, and it initially registers like its going to charg the Apple devices, but then the error message pops up. Any help will be greatly appreciated as my main use for this will be in charging my iPads and iPhones. Thank you.
Creator Jon Klingler on November 10, 2012
Received my 15W Max today. Looks very nice. I'm playing with it now, charging the auxilliary LiPo pack. As I'm in the Northwest, we're not getting a whole lot of sun, but it's able to charge the LiPo battery, but can't handle the LiPo and my Galaxy S3 phone simultaneously. Must not be enough sunlight. Anyway, my question: I also purchased the 12 volt converter/adapter, the " Car Power Port Adapter addon for the SunVolt". However, it has a smaller tip...looks to be a 2.5 mm instead of the 3.5 mm on all of the other adapters. I guess I have to go to Radio Shack and get an adapter?
Creator Debbie Fournier on November 10, 2012
Mine arrived this week; had to wait for today to be home during daylight hours. Set up easily and appears to charging the companion battery pack just fine. Very nice construction, high quality product, wishing I bought more than one!
Creator FELIX S.HAMIDJAJA on November 9, 2012
Don,
I'm sorry, after checking all the cables, you give us a splitter instead, which we can use to charge 2 device at once. Serve the purpose.
It's OK, fine with me.
Thanks again.
Creator FELIX S.HAMIDJAJA on November 9, 2012
Don,
Test mine today, it's work fine ! When hit the sun immediately start charging.
But, wondering why the charging port is only ONE, suppose to be TWO charging port for SUNVOLT 10W, is it ?
Can you send me the other one ? How we can lug in the other one to the solar panel ?
Appreciate if you can give me a quick response on this.
Thanks
Creator FELIX S.HAMIDJAJA on November 8, 2012
Don, received mine today, here in Jakarta, INDONESIA. Have to try before I make any comments.
It's by FedEx, but have to pay US$ 5,80 for custom duty, it's OK.
Creator Satya on November 7, 2012
Don,
My Sunvolt 15W is working, However, I'm getting an error "charging is not supported with this accessory" when trying to charge an iPhone 4 or 5.
Any ideas?
Creator Don Cayelli on November 7, 2012
@Larry. Hi Larry, I just sent you a message so we can see what happened and I can help troubleshoot things. Please check your email when you get a chance and let me know.
Creator larry d jamner on November 7, 2012
Hi Don, I did receive the package today -thank you! I do have a question. From the instruction sheet, it appears I was sent the 10W Sunvolt rather than the 15W Sunvolt MAX ($130 pledge). There is only one power plug in the unit I received as opposed to two power plugs pictured in the diagram for for the SunVolt MAX. Is there another way to tell which unit I have? Also, I've been trying to charge a Galaxy S3 for about 30min now with no increase in %charged indicated on the phone. Will update again later today. Can you determine which Sunvolt Model I was sent? Many thanks!! Larry
Creator Clarence W on November 7, 2012
FYI, My 10W Sunvolt is able to charge an iPad 2 just fine, but I'm still getting the "charging is not supported with this accessory" eror for my iPad 1 and cannot charge it.
So it doesn't appear to be the SunVolt not getting enough sun as the cause.
Creator Clarence W on November 7, 2012
Don,
My Sunvolt 10W is working great for my iPhone 4S---I used both a new iPhone 30-pin to USB adapter and an old iPod 30-pin to USB adapter.
However, I'm getting an error "charging is not supported with this accessory" when trying to charge an iPad 1.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Creator Nicolas Himbert on November 7, 2012
Received mine few minutes ago.thanks a lot, i will try it as soon there is sun here.
Creator Don Cayelli on November 7, 2012
@Nicolas: All the orders have shipped. I just checked the tracking on your order and it says it is on the vehicle for delivery today. You should be receiving it shortly! @David: There are a lot of factors that affect the performance (e.g. clearness of day, time of day, location, type of device being charged, etc). I have sent you a message to troubleshoot things. I promise we'll get it working!
Creator David Hardy on November 7, 2012
Don, tried mine yesterday. It was cloudy, no charge on my phone. I see another that did not work and mine may not.
Creator Nicolas Himbert on November 7, 2012
Have you shipped all order ? I havent received tracking number.
Thanks
Creator Don Cayelli on November 6, 2012
@Larry. Hi Larry. Your SunVolt did ship on Oct 31st by FedEx Ground (we're located in Washington D.C. so it's going a long ways). I just checked tracking and it said that it was on the vehicle for delivery today. Please let me know if you don't receive it and I'll send you the tracking via PM.
Thanks!
Creator larry d jamner on November 6, 2012
Hi Don, I was one of the Honor Roll backers who asked about delivery last week. You indicated that my reward was shipped on 10/31. Were rewards shipped out via ground mail? Is there a tracking # you can provide (I had asked for one in my earlier comment)? I'm pleased to read that other backers have begun to receive their rewards and I'm looking forward to using the Sunvolt soon! Here in sunny California I can use it most every day ;-) Look forward to your reply! Take care, Larry
Creator Don Cayelli on November 6, 2012
@Brandon: I just sent you a message to troubleshoot. Please let me know when you receive it.
Creator Brandon Tasset on November 6, 2012
Received mine yesterday, it doesn't work. What do I need to do? I checked all connections. Love the product, feels like I am forgetting something.
Creator Laura Graham on November 6, 2012
Got mine yesterday as well and am I REALLY impressed with the packaging and thoughtfulness that went into that part of this product. Cant wait to test it out. Great job!
Creator David Hardy on November 6, 2012
Got mine yesterday, but of course it's raining, so cannot test it. It really looks well thought out and constructed, hopefully can try it soon.
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on November 2, 2012
I received your message. Unfortunately, however i wont be receiving the shipment until monday at latest, so i will not be able to review the product until said time. This is ok though. I was not expecting the shipment to be on time due to the weather, I just hope Fed Ex is not handling more than they can chew. Anyways thank you for the message and i look forward to trying out the sun volt.
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on November 1, 2012
Should i be receiving the info within the next 24 hours?
Creator Don Cayelli on November 1, 2012
@Raymund: You should get an email from fedex with tracking, however, that info might not have been importing properly for us. Please let me know if you don't receive it and i can look the tracking up for you.
Creator Don Cayelli on November 1, 2012
@larry. Yes. All honor roll orders were sent yesterday!
Creator larry d jamner on November 1, 2012
Hi Don, You've done a wonderful job sticking to your calendar. I wanted to ask whether of the units that shipped yesterday, did these include the 'honor roll' sunvolts? If so, how were they shipped (e.g., fedex USPS). Many thanks again for a creative product. Larry
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on November 1, 2012
Oh, Thank goodness! Just wondering if there is going to be any tracking? Other than that, thank you for everything!
Creator Don Cayelli on November 1, 2012
@Raymund. The Kickstarter rewards started shipping yesterday (Oct 31). We proceed 200 of the 590 rewards and you should be receiving it shortly (we checked and your reward was included in the first batch!)
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on October 31, 2012
I understand if the deliveries were not started yet but, will we be getting an Email as to when to expect our sun volts to be delivered?
Creator David Hardy on October 30, 2012
@Don. No worrys, just curious. Take your time and be careful.
Creator Don Cayelli on October 29, 2012
@David: Yes we are. Unfortunately, we are located in the Mid-Atlantic (Washington D.C.) and have Hurricane Sandy bearing down on us, but it should be out of the way soon. We plan on shipping the rewards out on Tuesday, but not sure if FedEx will be able to pick them up due to the weather. Nonetheless, everything is shipping this week for sure.
Creator David Hardy on October 29, 2012
Still shipping this month?
Creator machine idea f on October 22, 2012
From Gomadic sales support team re: the time limited, backer discount coupon accessories offer.
"We apologize for the trouble. We will apply 25% of the purchase price back to your card today."
"Sincerely,
Gomadic"
That was a quick correction.
Good support is appreciated.
Creator machine idea f on October 19, 2012
Hi Don,
Placed an order for the accessories today with the coupon code copy and pasted but the order did not apply it.
How can it be corrected?
Creator David Hardy on September 30, 2012
Any chance a car AUX type adapter will ever be made so more things can be charged? For that matter, an AUX type plug so you can plug it into the AUX of a car to charge up it's battery?
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on September 29, 2012
Ok that looks and sounds plausible. Thank you Mr. King.
Creator Thomas King on September 29, 2012
Raymund R DAsis, someone did a scientific experiment answering just that question: http://www.limpkin.fr/index.php…
The short answer; artificial light = no. sunlight trickling indoors from a window to recharge batteries = no. sunlight trickling indoors from a window to power an electronic device directly temporarily while the sun is shining directly on the panel = yes.
Creator Don Cayelli on September 18, 2012
Production is on track for a late October ship date. So far everything is right on schedule! (knock on wood).
Creator Paul Shabian on September 18, 2012
Don, If the production is on track, when will you start the shipment? Thx
Creator Raymund R DeAsis on September 17, 2012
I would like to ask if the power station could work with artificial light, e.g. a lamp or indoor light source?
Creator asdf asfd on September 14, 2012
So glad to hear that everything is on time so far. Looking forward to this quite a bit!
Creator Thomas King on September 13, 2012
Jared, look at the back of your device or power supply, it should say how many watts. Or volt and amps dc. 6 V x 1 amp = 6 watt. If your device is 6 watt, then the 10 watt unut should be fine. If it is borderline, get the 15 watt panel just in case it is partially clouduy
Creator Jared Michael on September 13, 2012
What will the 15w model charge that the 10w model wont? or does it just charge faster?
Creator Don Cayelli on September 13, 2012
Hi Kickstarters. I wanted to respond to a few notes below. The panels are covered with tempered glass. The glass is durable and the panel is well protected and cushioned inside the case. Production is on schedule with the panels already in route, and the cases are due to be completed on 9/29. Less any unforeseen transit/customs delays, we should be right on schedule! We have tested the SunVolt with Gomadic's rechargeable battery packs and they work great. A link to a sample battery pack is below.
http://www.gomadic.com/apple-iphone-4s-lithium-portable-battery-charger.html
Three more hours to go! Thanks for all your support!
