About this project

OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL
Imagine finding luminous black and white footage of the couple and the attorneys at the heart of your story that had been stashed away in a closet for more than 40 years - it happened to us! And then we uncovered a treasure trove of rare and incredible photographs. We are so fortunate to have this never-before-seen imagery - it is the heartbeat of our film.

We are currently raising funds towards the post-production of the film, specifically the licensing fees associated with rare archival footage, photographs and music. We estimate that the license fees could reach upwards of $180,000 and we are asking for your help to make sure we can acquire the material that is so critical to our telling of THE LOVING STORY.

OUR PLAN
We are currently in the post-production phase of the film, working hard on our fine cut, which will be followed by picture-lock. Our premiere, which could be as early as February or as late as mid-April, requires that our online and sound mix happen in early 2011, so we are under the gun! We are working tirelessly to make it happen...

OUR WEBSITE
It is a work in progress, but the early website for the film is here:

MORE ABOUT THE FILM
A racially-charged criminal trial and a heart-rending love story converge in this documentary about Richard and Mildred Loving, set during the turbulent Civil Rights era. THE LOVING STORY is a story of love and the struggle for dignity set against a backdrop of historic anti-miscegenation sentiments in the U.S. The Lovings, an interracial couple, fell in love and married at a critical time in American history. Due to a confluence of social and political turmoil, our reluctant heroes brought about change where previously no one else could. They were paired with two young and ambitious lawyers who were driven to pave the way for social justice and equal rights through a historic Supreme Court case; Loving v. Virginia overturned bans on interracial marriage in sixteen states.

THE LOVING STORY is told through never-before-seen cinema verité footage of the Lovings and their lawyers and through other authentic footage of the times. Together with oral accounts by our subjects and interviews with their family and friends, we fully immerse the audience in their saga – from their courtship, to their arrest and exile, to their preparation for the 1967 Supreme Court case. THE LOVING STORY takes us on a journey into the heart of race relations in America. But, in the end, it is a dignified and poignant love story of two people who simply wanted to live in the place they called home.
