Although the $600 Custom Cover pledge reward is showing up as an option. We have signed our order with the printer and have locked in the 5 current covers. In addition to the 3 covers listened in the Kickstarter campaign. Beach Ball Comics and CornerStoreComics and Austin Books and Comics will have custom cover books available only through their stores each limited to 300 copies. We will post cover art as it becomes available. If retailers want to pledge for a custom cover, we will be happy to honor that as a second printing cover, but our first print run custom covers are set. As a consolation, I am adding a $600 pledge level that does not offer the custom cover, but does offer a slightly better discount. With less than 500 books available from the first print run, we hope you take advantage of our Retailer Levels.
The Concept
The concept for Unite and Take Over is pretty simple. What story plays in your head when you listen to your favorite Smiths song? I approached some of my fellow comic book creators and asked them to create 4-8 pages stories inspired by their favorite Smiths songs. The song acts as an inspiration, jumping off point, theme or mood for the story. Each story varies in style and genre.
The Plan
We are planning to premiere Unite and Take Over at Tucson Comic-con in November. We have 13 scripts that have been approved and turned over to the artists with several more nearing completion. As it stands, the book will have 74 pages of illustrated stories. We are asking backers to help with the costs to print the book, license the print rights for lyrics use, purchase an ISBN barcode, and create some unique Kickstarter rewards. International backers please add $10 to your pledge to offset the difference in the shipping costs.

Tne Tucson Comic-con Exclusive cover has been drawn by Jason Pedersen. It will be sold at the Tucson Comic-con 2011 and will not be reprinted.
Kickstarter Exclusive Cover
The Kickstarter Exclusive cover was drawn by Michael Stewart. The cover contains images of the lead singers of several Smiths tribute bands including the lead singers of Strangeways, Handsome Devilz, This Charming Band, Sweet and Tender Hooligans,The Sons and Heirs, The Smiths United, Still ill, Viva Morrissey, Louder Than Bombs, The Smiths Ltd, The Smiths Indeed and The Smyths. This cover will have a limited run based upon the number of rewards.

In order for this project to be successfully, we need your support. Not only do we need your pledges, but we need you to pass the links to our Kickstarter page to your friends. No everyone is a fan of the Smiths (gasp), but most people know people who like independent comics, music related projects or unique storytelling. Absolutely, we are hoping that fans all over the world will be interested in the project and want to support it. We have several tribute bands from the UK who are participating in the Kickstarter exclusive cover. We want to make sure that fans of the tribute bands also have the ability to order copies of that cover. We are asking international backers to add $10 to their pledge so that we can ship their book(s) U.S. Priority shipping because I’ve found that in the past items arrive quicker and in better condition shipped that way. Any amount you choose to add to your pledge will ensure that your pledge goes toward the production of the book and not international shipping charges.

Adding international shipping to your pledge is as simple as adjusting the pledge level by the amount you wish to apply to shipping. For example, if you wish to pledge at the Level 3 pledge level for $40, you could add $10 for shipping by making your overall pledge $50.

Yes. Once the pledge period is over, we send out a survey to confirm the name in the acknowledgements, address where the rewards are send, and any customization you need for signed, sketched or haikued items.

Connected as SpazDog Comics
A birthday present of Batman issue #614 and #615 reignited a love of comic books and graphic storytelling. It lead to opening a comic book store, which lead to publishing comic books. SpazDog Press is dedicated to publishing the work of up and coming independent comic book creators. Unite and Take Over is the culmination of a passion for comics and music. The first Smiths song he ever listened to was Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want on the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack in high school.
