Update #5: Do You Like Shya Scanlon? So Do We!
That's why we're offering the Shya Scanlon Prize Package: a hand-bound copy of his novel Forecast, lovingly constructed by Spork Press publisher Drew Burk. Only three copies exist -- this particular one reads "Fuck Tucson" on the back and inside cover.
"The year is 2212, the weather is out of control, and Seattle is being rebuilt with electricity generated from negative human emotion. In a strange and turbulent world fueled by secrecy and voyeurism, a bored housewife named Helen vanishes, and Citizen Surveillant Maxwell Point, the man whose job it's been to watch her, must recount the years leading up to her disappearance. As Helen is drawn back to the city on an increasingly absurd errand to find a man she once loved, Maxwell begins to suspect foul play. But is he so dependent on the very thing he's trained to protect that it colors not only his judgment, but his grip on reality? In this novel inspired by the troubled relationship between an author and his craft, Shya Scanlon renders a surreal, dystopian world in which alternate motives are required and people must hide even from themselves—a world in which the only real freedom is powerlessness."
Update #4: New Reward Package: Original Painting by Dave Eggers!
Yes! We've added a brand-new, ultra-cool reward. An anonymous TRNSFR reader has donated a Dave Eggers painting to our cause, and for a $1000 pledge it can be yours!
Update #3: From Our Own Correspondents
Not only can your pledge win you a copy of TRNSFR editor Alban Fischer's chapbook Status Area, we've just added a new reward! A $15 pledge lands you TRNSFR contributor-turned-staffer Katherine Marty's double chapbook Hedges/B-Sides. This handsome volume includes all the poems she performed at Cangue League's inaugural performance-art cabaret, "Flowers."
Check it out: two covers, two themes, two books in one.
Update #2: Hey Guys, Have We Mentioned How Awesome Michael Kimball Is?
Why, you may ask, should you pledge the Michael Kimball Package? Because these DVDs from Little Burn Films are strange and stunning.
For example, I WILL SMASH YOU:
"Twenty different people each tell a personal story about an object and then destroy that object. A teenage girl burns a papier - mâché version of her teacher's head to get the meanness out. A man smashes his procrastination with a cement block. Another man sings his grandfather's favorite hymn and then swings a baseball bat at the song's notes. And a woman smashes her car because it is cursed — plus many more stories and a lot more destruction."
Trailer featuring the filmmaker himself!
Or 60 Writers/60 Places:
"[A film] about writers and their writing occupying untraditional spaces, everyday life, everywhere. It begins with the idea of the tableaux vivant, a living picture where the camera never moves, but the writers read a short excerpt of their work instead of silently holding their poses.
"There is Blake Butler reading in a subway, Deb Olin Unferth in a Laundromat, Jamie Gaughran-Perez in a beauty salon, Tita Chico in a dressing room, Gary Lutz at the botantical gardens, Will Eno in a park, Tao Lin next to a hot dog cart, and Rick Moody on a baseball field. The writer and the writing go on no matter what is going on around them."
Trailer featuring the indescribable Blaster Al Ackerman!
Pledge and relish in Little Burn Films' incredible collisions between visual and verbal.
Update #1: New Reward Package!
TRNSFR contributor Catherine Lacey is also an owner of the cooperatively-run 3B, downtown Brooklyn's most welcoming bed & breakfast. She's generously offering 50% off one night in a private room. And we'll add a year's subscription, plus the TRNSFR Prize Package!
From their website:
"3B is a boutique bed and breakfast cooperatively owned and run by 8 young creators out of our home. Since opening in October 2010 we have made tremendous progress and gotten great responses from all our guests. Once we completed work on all of our beautifully furnished rooms, we turned our attention to the common space which we opened in the new year. We have a welcoming living room and a charming kitchen from which we delicious, home-made breakfast every morning (frittatas, spiced oatmeal, and muffins, oh my!)"
East Coast folks, make 3B your next getaway!

TRNSFR is responsible for the mysterious lights in the daytime skies over Mexico City in May of 2004, for which it has apologized on several occasions. It is also a nifty, difficult-to-shelve magazine of poetry, fiction, art, essays, and oddments whose cover always gets put on wrong.
