Video Synopsis:

This film is about shedding light on the problems the people of Dichato, Chile are still facing almost two years after the 8.8 earthquake of February 27th, 2010. Shortly following the earthquake seven tsunami waves destroyed their town of 5,000 people. Having been relocated to temporary camps, they are finding that the emergency housing provision is lacking some of the most basic necessities: running water and bathrooms, to name a few. The people in these emergency camps are now fighting to have their land restored to them, and that the government will fulfill it's promise of providing them with permanent housing. This is their story. 

Director's Vision:

Espera Dichato we be a feature length film we are expecting to fit into a 50-60 minute range. We are currently working through a list of people to have conversations with including: residents of Dichato; political figures in Dichato, Tomé, Concepción and representatives of the BioBío region; land owners in the area; aid organizations; scientist, and economists. The video will explore what is happening with the residents of Dichato, and why it is taking so long for them to find a permanent housing solution.

The video below is an interview conducted with Kencho Miranda who is the president of one of the emergency shelter camps. In this video he talks about many of the issues we are planning to explore in this film. 

What does the title mean?

The verb esperar in Spanish can take on three different meanings: to hope, to expect, and to wait. These three meanings also illustrate what the people of Dichato, Chile are experiencing right now.

Why Support this Documentary?

Many residents in Dichato feel that they have no voice in the situation they are currently facing, the main goal of this documentary is to explore the position the residents are in, and to show the world their plight. By supporting / donating to this documentary you are doing much more that helping make a documentary, you are giving the residents of Dichato a voice.

This budget seems like a lot of money, do you need all of it?

After going over a budget, and revising several times we came up with our budget as a number we feel will allow us to accurately portray the situation in Dichato. An integral part of the budget will be showing the completed film, and in that regard, the money you donate will be invaluable to help raise  awareness so that we can work to better the situation the Dichatinos are currently living in. 

This budget doesn't seem like enough for a documentary, don't you need more? 

The number we have budgeted is not on the low or high side of budgets we calculated. We surely can use all the support we can get, money that we raise over our budget will go into further post-production work, and more film festival entrances.

If I am reading this correctly the timeline you are suggesting seems very aggressive, can you finish it by November 2012? 

While we are technically in pre-production, we are slowly starting to film small "pre-interviews," if you will, which we feel are pointing us in a positive direction for shooting most of the film between November 2011 and February 2012. This  will give us around seven months to complete everything involved in typical post-production (color correction, film editing, and original score) while also shooting more during this time as needed. So though the timeline is aggressive we feel it is certainly doable. 

Do you have an example of the movie posters?

We do! These are the early samples, we are still working on the final product, but the RGB and black and white color theme will be in the finished product. The finished posters for Kickstarter backers will be an 11x17 poster printed at a local print shop in Oregon.

Here are some samples, since each mosaic is one of a kind, the one you receive most likely will look different.
