This project doesn't pitch "young & flashy," but "worthy & homespun" does merit value for anyone who qualifies for AARP.
We have created a unique not-for-profit road show dedicated to and free of charge for older adults. It is called New Chautauqua Jig.
This project is designed in the spirit and purpose of the original Chautauquas--the adult education movement in rural US, highly popular at the turn of the 20th century. Theodore Roosevelt called Chautauquas, “the most American thing in America.”
We want to bring folk music and positive aging lessons to rural senior citizens with hope to change our society's current belief system from not just becoming old, but aging consciously or from aging to "sage-ing®."
Here's our personal pitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYaZl3effpM
The goals are to 1) share the wealth of aging, 2) reawaken purpose and creativity in the older generation, and 3) gather gems of wisdom for everyone.
As the human spirit continues to evolve, so does the mind and heart, particularly as we age. The New Chautauqua Jig, promotes this growth by offering inspiration and purpose.
Driving the back roads of rural America, we will both entertain and share ideas about positive aging in rural senior community centers. We will also collect and document stories from community Elders.
