This is a zine i am making for an art show, and i need funding to make 100 more for distribution at the show.

I am a documentary photographer shooting in black and white film. Living in new york city is expensive but inspiring - i get to meet tons of amazing people and one of those people i met last year has now asked me to be involved in a show he is curating. The theme is the future , but in a personal way, not a futuristic way, and i was asked to listen to a couple patti smith songs for direction. Specifically "Rock n Roll NIgger".

I have been making zines for a couple years now, and in the summers i teach a zine making class to 8-17 year olds at the Element/YMCA skate camp in Kings Canyon Natl. park in California. I teach them to have confidence in their words and ideas, and to express themselves through photography, poetry, drawing, interviews, and design.

This is the first "Fine Art" display that i have been involved in since my college thesis show, a little over a year ago, and i am super excited, and it's my first time using Kickstarter so i hope it can be a great collaboration.

This work, and my work in general, is about failure, adventure, and change. This canoe trip was an homage to a lot of my personal history, as Picasso said "style is developed by copying yourself" or something like that... I have had an artistic relationship with canoes, because my grandmother was a painter, and one of my favorite pieces of hers was made on a canoe of my mother rowing in the front of the boat. One of my first large oil paintings in school was based on that painting, and made from a photograph i took of a friend canoeing. Garrett, is also a constant in my artwork, for he is my best friend from childhood, and we have grown together and i have grown photographing him. We both push ourselves to be our best selves, and inspire each others work completely.

This is me and garrett's story, from my eyes, as we tried to go on a trip, both physical and mental, but failed in so many ways, overcoming and having learning and having fun anyways.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

There's not much risk, I have made a lot of Zines before, but the deadline is coming up so a challenge is certainly going to be printing out these hundreds of copies, and finding a way that is not obnoxious to present them to guests of the art show, i don't want it to be some cheesy display case like when you walk into a museum, but i think its totally necessary that the viewer has read the zine before they understand the Silver Gelatin Print that is going to hang in the gallery.
