Ruston grew up in New Mexico, where he gained a love of photography while capturing images of the surrounding red rock landscape.

He began his professional career in public television where he honed his cinematography and editing skills. He began with Tales from the Trail, a hiking and mountain biking series, and most recently completed a documentary about the fight against malaria in Ghana. In between he has worked on such varied projects as a behind the scenes film of the Utah Shakespearean Festivals traveling company, an inside look at the Chechen warrior culture, animated films, commercials, educational films for several universities, and short films for museums, including the Museum of Utah Art and History.

Ruston’s love of visual story telling has combined with his love of travel. He has seen the world through a camera, filming all across the U.S., as well as, Canada, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, Ghana, Mali, China, Russia, France and Switzerland. He is currently scheduled to work in Italy and Greece.
