Update #11: FINAL HOURS-- THANK YOU!!!

Posted on December 11

WOW.

After 59.5 days of fundraising, this kickstarter drive ends Sunday, Dec 11th, 2011, 2 pm pacific time.

I've spent 59.5 days encouraging every person I can find, everywhere on the web I can think of, to LIKE, SHARE, and BACK THIS PROJECT. The results have been stunning.

I still encourage you to do all of these things as we move into our final hours, but I feel strongly that this final push must also be spent thanking you, the community that has made this launch possible.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me through the last 2 months (and 30 years!) as I've worked to launch this company. Our first pairs of jeans arrive Monday. I could not possibly be happier. As we approach the end of the fundraising period, I can see in a whole new, and very real, way how the power of many people, each doing something reasonable, can sum to something amazing.

I am humbled and grateful for you, the community I am surrounded by-- for the support you have provided, for the work you have done to help me, and for the funding you have provided.

I could never, in a million years have provided all this for myself.

I PROMISE you, I will use the momentum, the money, and the support generated by this sixty days to create objects and energy that reflect this positive and giving spirit.

Our kickstarter ends, and our webstore goes live, tomorrow at www.remyholwick.com.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

xoxo, and THANK YOU AGAIN.

Remy

Update #10: Behind the scenes at the RH denim shoot with Roman Cho!

Posted on December 7

THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN!!!! 3 days left to get as much funding as we can to launch RH denim! We've met our minimum with days to spare... now the real work begins.

Thanks to all of you and your generous support, kickstarter considers us "viable"-- we met our minimum goal and our funding will be released to us.  Now is the fun part-- we have to raise as much as we can over this goal to really start to get ourselves established.

If we hit 15,000, we can start looking at moving into a brick and mortar space all by ourselves, and NOT pitching our company to investors yet-- this will be enough to make a real bid to NOT go into an early partnership, NOT go into debt, and NOT go into any agreements which would compromise ownership of my company.  This would be a dream come true for me.  I feel like it's been such a journey and it is all thanks to you, my amazing support network.  I can not believe your generosity and kindness. THANK YOU!

As a special THANK YOU, I have attached a behind the scenes look at the first RH lookbook shoot. It was photographed by Roman Cho and featured 18 women.  A few of them made it onto video, including Lydia Hearst, Nikki Pennie, Kris Zero, Monica Lugo, Tatiana Simonian, Mynxii White, Elizabeth Braun, and Lauren Harper.  I am so happy to have this reminder of a really special day, and even happier to share it with you.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed making this company happen, and watching my dreams come to life.

Update #9: OMG WE REACHED 10,000... what next?

Posted on December 7

Hi Guys,

WE DID IT! WE reached 10,000 together!  10,000 is the minimum level we had to hit to have our funding released and to receive money...

So what now?

Well, that money will buy fabric, our first production run, sampling for fall/winter, and a lot more.

The next step is looking for a workspace to bring some sewing in-house... this will up our quality, provide new jobs, and allow us to have a place to call home and sell from!

Hitting our minimum is just the beginning... from here, any funds we raise will go towards making this next step a reality.

I can not say thank you enough!!!!! I know it's late but I couldn't wait till morning to say YOU ARE ALL THE BEST...we have 4 days to pull together as much as we can... let's ROCK THIS!

PS, tomorrow I'm releasing a video surprise!

xoxo

Remy

Update #8: One week left! Update, video, and thanks

Posted on December 4

Hi Everybody!

It's Remy :) I wanted to take some time this Sunday morning to let you all know what we've been up to, and to THANK YOU so much for all the contributions, jeans pre-sales, and link sharing you've done... we only have 3,700 dollars to go (off of what once seemed like an unfathomable 10,000 dollar goal), and it is all thanks to you.

This week, we have finally added a really cute video interview, where I talk about what makes my jeans concept special.  I'm super happy with how it turned out, and I've attached for you to take a look at and consider sharing with anyone who you think might like it.  This video also marks the launch of our youtube channel, where our team will be talking all about fashion, giving you looks inside our studio, and doing anything else that we think might be fun and interesting for you.

I'm also really excited to announce that we've started production on our first orders of denim. Before Christmas, we will be at Verameat NYC, Holiday and Co. in Makawao, HI; and Nuage Bleu, in Paia, HI. YAY!  If you have ideas for any boutiques you'd like to see us in, PLEASE let me know!

This week, we will be starting work on our plus-sized block (a block is the basic body shape we draft patterns from).  Plus has always been part of my plan, and I've heard from so many of my friends again and again that the commercial blocks being used just aren't right.  I'm SO excited to offer plus, and can't wait to have our first pairs in hand.

We will also be getting set to launch e-commerce, and this week, we're starting to design the user interface.  This is a learning experience, and I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks again for all your help.  We are getting so close to our launch! I couldn't be more excited, and I couldn't do it without you!!!!

Love,

Remy

Update #7: More from last Sunday's Shoot!

Posted on November 13

Hi Guys,

As I edit our photoshoot and prepare for a huge investor meeting tomorrow, I wanted to show you all some shots of incredible real women-- stylists, artists, family, career women, dreamers, survivors, and supermodels, all together-- wearing our jeans, and rocking their own charisma, atitude, and style. Happy Sunday!

We're not quite at the 50% mark, and I'd love to be able to keep doing what I love... please consider passing this project to your friends.  Stuff like samples, a studio (thanks Rebecca at Smudge for taking care of us and discounting your rates!), a photographer (Roman Cho shot this for us out of the goodness of his heart--AMAZING!-- but his assistants and equipment can't happen for free), hair, makeup, food for the crew, transportation, logistics, 16 pair of nude underwear, duct tape... all the things that make days like this shoot happen smoothly do cost money.  I want to thank you all SO SO MUCH for putting a little of your hard earned money towards this project!

I'll keep updating as we go.. in the meantime, thank you all again!! your support means the world to us.

Update #6: working on the denim lookbook!

Posted on November 12

hey guys... just wanted to share the aesthetic of the denim lookbook we're working on this week... that's me in the photo :) HIIII!

We want the lookbook to communicate about the people in the photos, not just the jeans.  We asked all our models to fill out brief questionaires about their lives, loves, and motivations.

The text on the photos is taken from the handwriting on the questionaire and has not been edited.

Update #5: first images from sunday's shoot!

Posted on November 9

Hi Everybody,

I'm very excited to share a look from Sunday's shoot!

Although it was a denim shoot, I managed to bring one finished look from the collection, our RTW A/W 2012 Monk Dress.

It's usually fashion taboo to show something this far in advance, but I'd like to make sure you all see what your contributions are making happen.

My model is 17 year old Sam, who traded in her combat boots for one afternoon in favor of something more ladylike. I love this girl with all my heart and soul-- I've known her for half her life, and she's spent many, many nights in my studio/apartment.  I also love that her portraits catch her in an extended moment of self reflection, trying out a sophistication that is still a bit foreign to her.

My work is my life-- I cut this dress on the same kitchen table Sam, her sisters, my son, my husband and I and I have cooked a million dinners on.  I'm glad I have the ability to integrate my life and work; and thank you for helping me continue to do this.

I look forward to sharing more photos with you in the very near future!

love,

Remy

Update #4: we shot our "One for All" lookbook on sunday!

Posted on November 8

fifteen people.  one pair of jeans.  unlimited potential.

The message of our "one for all" shoot on sunday is simple-- no one can capture your personal style or story with any amount of resin- and- sanded- in faux distress.

I created RH denim in my living room, on my home sewing machine, with a simple goal-- to give wearers a neutral platform upon which to tell their stories.  From one pair, and seemingly countless fittings to get the shape as prefect as possible, we have now produced, photographed, and distributed our first production run of denim-- not to celebrities, but to real people, with real stories, who have been kind enough to share little pieces of their lives in our look book.

Jiz Lee is a genderqueer icon who rocks a suit and packs a cock. Nikki is a stylist who looks ready to daytrip to Malibu. Jessica is a breast cancer survivor who rocks out with her scarred breasts out.  Elizabeth shows off her tattoos, seventeen year old sam channels Amy Winehouse, Korin is a painter with a fiery spirit, Tatiana is a rocker through and through (and is dancing with photographer Roman Cho in the enclosed image), and even my mother gets in front of the camera.

I want to thank everyone who has pledged so far, and to encourage everyone to please help me.  We are halfway through our fundraising period and only 1/4 of the way to our goal... We have a lot of work to do, but I believe we can!

Thanks again for your help, and love to all.

Remy

Update #3: we're on twitter!

Posted on October 14

hi guys,

We reached 15% of our goal in 36 hours! You guys as AH-MAY-ZING!

if you're on twitter, you can follow me at @remyinheaven to see updates.  I don't post images from the collection I'm working on on any websites, and won't till after february, but I do send the ocassional cell-phone snap to twitter-- like last night's marathon pattern drafting session on my kitchen table after my son was asleep.

Twitter offers you all to have the opportunity to check in and see what we're up to-- and how hard we're all working to justify all your support.  It's the real-time feed of all our progress... and my occasional "time for the gym!" post ;)

Thanks again for all your support,

Remy

Update #1: our first photoshoot will be on Nov 6th

Posted on October 12

We are pleased to say that we will be having our RH denim photoshoot, creating images to present to potential financial partners, on Nov 6th.  The looks will be photographed by Roman Cho (www.romancho.com), and will be portraits of notable LA women of all ages, sizes, and talents, who have generously donated their time and support, including Lydia Hearst, artist Korin Faught, stylist Nikki Pennie, and others. Those who donate any amount attached to a photo incentive will receive images from this shoot.

The denim for this shoot is already sewn and all ready to exit the factory, and we are on track to have a beautiful set of images to present.

She attended Reed College, where she learned formal drafting and construction for clothing and costume. She went on to New York, where she became a model for Calvin Klein, Georgio Armani, and others, and became known for her singular style, but ultimately decided that she loved the construction of the clothes more than being the face of the brands. In 2005, she took a position in ready-to-wear design in los angeles, and has spent the interim learning and making contacts across the industry. After almost a decade of designing professionally for many national and international brands, she has decided to launch her own company, along with a business partner with thirty years in the apparel industry, and support and consulting from industry vets.
