Birthed by powerful collaborations, the Julius Ford / Harriet Tubman Healthy Living Community (JFHTHLC) has been challenging and building community across social borders since 2006. The natural beauty and open environment of Earthdance support us in discovering, loving and bravely nurturing the world as we also nurture our minds and souls. 

Every summer we gather at Earthdance [www.earthdance.net] for a week-long, intensive conference, with 50-70 inter-generational organizers, artists, community-builders, to learn together. 

This year JFHTHLC embarks on a journey for sustained longevity.  Inspired by the well-known caption of the Feminist Movement, The Personal is Political, our theme for this year's conference, July 31- August 3rd promises to help each participant find the balance between everyday sacrifices made for (or because of) the community we love, and the liberty to live for our own welfare.

Only the community can build and elevate itself to its highest potential, and for this, we highlight all voices. We consider the social implications of identity and image that issues of difference, such as race, class, gender, age, and ethnicity create. By engaging with these issues directly, with compassion, we progress to a place of learning, educating, and understanding, with equity.

We’ll be exploring the questions “How does my organization care for the community,” and “How do I care for myself?” since the two go hand-in-hand.  The conference will provide time for artistic exchange & practice (dance, yoga, visual arts, music), critical thinking and dialogue, walking the grounds, eating good food, participating in stress management exercises, and learning how to cultivate and nurture the land.  At this years conference, we will ask participants who would like to share to step up into leadership positions, and lead a workshop about the work they are doing.

To exchange ideas and learn from one another, is to strengthen the network of tomorrow’s leaders.

Our co-organizing collectives are excited about this year's conference participants, as they are all very successful, driven and powerful organizations full of willing and critical leaders.  We have young people joining the Community at our conference this year from: First Gen, 3rd Eye Unlimited, and more!

JFHTHLC CONFERENCE BUDGET:   $15,000                                         Amount raised to date: $5,000

WE'VE RECEIVED ADDITIONAL MATCHING FUNDS!! in the amount of $5,000.  This means that EVERY DOLLAR THAT YOU CONTRIBUTE will be DOUBLED to help us reach our total conference budget, and to receive these funds offered by generous community members who believe in this project!
