I'm raising money for a series of short EP releases called The Triples. Please help this independent artist pay for recording!
Do you like music? Do you like me? Well, then, have I got a proposition for you…
I’m back in the studio recording a series of three, three-song EPs—hereforth known as The Triples—and I’m asking fans, friends, family, and anyone else who’d like to contribute for some help. I’ve got a number of songs burning a hole in my pocket (yes, that’s where I keep my songs) and I want to get them out into the world. We (the band and I) have already started the recording process, and I'm bursting with joy (literally; send help) at how good these songs already sound. I will release each EP via a special download card. At the end of this series of Triples, I will re-release these songs as a full-length album, complete with artwork, CD, and additional tracks. Some common questions:
“Why Do You Need Money?” As most of you know, I funded my first album, Dying Day, all by my lonesome. It was worth every penny. But at the end of the day, those pennies added up to more than $11,000. Unless I start streetwalking (and let’s face it, that’s never really off the table), I’m not going to come across that kind of cash anytime soon. I don’t want to cut corners and make these recordings any less wonderful than the first, so I’m asking for help in raising about half of what these EPs will cost: $5,500.
“How Does It Work?” At Kickstarter, the idea is that the project initiator (that’s me) sets a time limit and a dollar goal. If I don’t reach that dollar goal (in this case, $5,500) within the allotted amount of time, Kickstarter will come to my house, kick in my television, punch my face, and use my bathroom without washing its hands afterwords! Lies! That’s not how it works at all. In truth, if I don’t reach my goal, all donations are refunded back to the donors. Why? Because Kickstarter doesn’t want donors giving money to projects that don’t have enough funding. A project that's under-funded is a project that doesn’t happen. And if that project doesn’t happen, you don’t really want someone to whom you just donated money walking around with a bunch of cash in her pocket while looking up bus fares to Tijuana. (Note: If I do reach my goal and I still have some time on the clock, I can continue to accept donations.)
“What’s In It For Me?” Not only will you help an independent artist (and her awesome band) pursue a dream, you get stuff. Stuff!!! Take a look-see at the Rewards. From music downloads to album credits and even private concerts, you’ve got a lot of options. Every dollar counts. Every dollar is appreciated. No donation is too small. (No donation is too big, either…you know what I'm saying?) Most of all, you help an independent artist create great music.
“Who are you? I mean, are you any good?” Well, music is subjective, but subjectively speaking, I’m awesome. But don’t take my word for it. Here’s some press for my first album, Dying Day:
“Dying Day is a stellar first release and the launch of a sure-to-be long and healthy career.”—Mare Wakefield, Performing Songwriter
“Barrett is refreshing, a bright light among others of her genre.”—Julia R. DeStefano, The Noise
“Just when you think you’ve got [Dying Day] nailed down, off it goes again on another unexpected tangent. That’s what makes this debut album so compelling. She’s a bit folky, a bit ethereal, a bit strange (especially on “Train”)—but all good.”—The U.K.’s Rock ‘n Reel
Better yet, take your own word for it. Listen to tracks at facebook.com/abbiebarrettfans
“I've listened and I like your music. I’m sorry I ever doubted you. How can I make this right?” Throw down a couple bucks and please spread the word! Let others know about this project. Share my widget. Tell your ma, tell your pa, tell your friends, tell your butcher, your baker, and your candlestick maker. (I assume you have one of those…)
“I’ve done everything you asked. So…is there something you’d like to say?” Yes. THANK YOU. Many many thanks in advance for your help. No doubt if you’re reading this page, you’ve already been to shows, listened to my first album, received countless emails from me, and in general, put up with all my crazy. I appreciate your support in so many ways. You allow me to do this thing that I love so much. I’m always astounded at how generous friends, family, and fans of the music continue to be. So thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
