After another amazing summer of bringing artists into the forest, we want to share their work with you! In the past we have ended the season with an exhibit highlighting the Outpost artists-in-residence. This year, we will reach an even larger audience by publishing Leaf Litter #2 as a full-color catalog. With your support we will be able to publish and send out catalogs throughout the country, further broadening our word-of-mouth outreach. 

As a way to say thanks for your support, we’ve thrown in some awesome additional Signal Fire goods - our first backpacking cookbook, Hoo-hoo Who Cooks For You?; a 2011 Signal Fire t-shirt; and the mother of thanks, a weekend in one of the Outpost tents!

Ryan and I are lucky enough to get to spend weeks over each summer getting to know a new group of artists. This past year, we had over 200 people apply to participate in our programs. In June, Ryan, Daniela and I led a week-long backpacking trip with ten artists. And in July, we continued the Outpost residency with eight artists joining us in the forests of Mt. Hood National Forest.

The participants continued to represent a range of medium; filmmakers, painters, musicians, designers, writers, sculptors, printmakers & social agitators. Signal Fire is not a project exclusive to artists who make work about the natural world or environmental issues. We have found that the chance to build a connection to a our remaining wild places does infuse into artistic practice in unexpected and amazing ways.

The artists who joined us this summer were chosen for their curiosity and openness to this potential, as well as the strength of their work. We will be thrilled to get the chance to share this amazing group with you.
