6 dancers + 1 band + 5 poets + some thought provoking choreography = 1 kick-ass show! (AKA: ahdanco's 2011 Season) Help us produce it!

Here's the deal:

The dancers are in, the band is in, the spoken word artists are in, the beautiful theater is booked, and the creative ideas are bouncing around my noggin'. All that is left is to get some money to produce this baby! PLEASE HELP!

The artists of ahdanco need your immediate help to produce our 2011 Season on May 6-8 at the Ashby Stage.

You can read more details about the show below (if that's your thing) or you can just look to your right and read about the amazing thank you gifts we have to offer you (just in case supporting the arts isn't enough!)

THE QUICK AND DIRTY:

(Here is who will be performing LIVE if we can raise enough money to turn on the lights):

  • CHOREOGRAPHER Abigail Hosein (yes, I may even dance);
  • DANCERS Lauren Baines, Rebecca Gilbert, Mica Miro, Julian Pham, Ambika Selvan-Dee, Amanda Whitehead;
  • THE BAND Entamoeba: Nicole Laby, Chris Evans, Mark Fassett, Aaron Priskorn;
  • SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS Nazelah Jefferies, Dre Johnson, Patrick Oshlund, Dusty Shrum

DETAILS ABOUT THE SHOW: Our upcoming evening-length show will incorporate two new works designed to open up and provide entry into the human psyche in an overtly narrative way. These new works reflect on, relate to, assess, empathize with, and accept those things that either separate or attach us as human beings coexisting in a chaotic world.

Specifically, I am expanding on a collaboration with Bay Area spoken word artists, which premiered to great acclaim in our last season. Working with these poets, the original three sectioned piece is being expanded to include five new “stories”, each comprised of a dancer and a poet sharing the stage to create a piece that, as described by an audience member, “was packed with powerful imagery that took the viewers on a journey into the intimate space of subjects' private lives. The poets and dancers related well with one another, sharing space, mood, and rhythm beautifully.” We are very excited to have the time to deepen our relationship with these spoken word artists both on and off stage, which will result in a greater cohesion between the performers in the telling of the stories.

This season, ahdanco’s commitment to collaboration and to presenting artists from across genres will also see and incorporation of live music and an original score from the San Francisco band Entamoeba.  This four-piece ambient band is composed of four loop stations, trumpet, cello, upright bass, guitar, and female vocals. The band, the dancers, and I are sharing movement and musical ideas and developing a work richly portraying the complexities of human relationship through dance and sound by having the musicians and dancers both on stage. Unlike incidental music in the background or in the pit, musicians will instead be a part of the dancers’ landscape. This new piece continues in the vein of my work that has been described as “at times accessing disturbing images but always with an understanding that vulnerability is an essential aspect of the human condition.”
