Amy X Neuburg & the Paul Dresher Ensemble are commissioning 10 composers to write songs for Amy to perform with the Ensemble.
We have reached our $6000 goal! Thanks so much to all our supporters! But we welcome further pledges up until our funding deadline of July 31 -- we've got plenty of gifts left, including tickets to the July 29 concert, and we have many many more thousands of dollars to raise to make this full project a reality. This is just the first phase of a long fundraising effort.
Thank you again -- xx!

Please help support Amy X Neuburg’s new collaboration with the Paul Dresher Ensemble!
They will have been so beautiful: Songs and images of now is the working title of a collaboration between singer/composer Amy X Neuburg and The Paul Dresher Ensemble that will result in a concert of new photography-inspired songs by 10 diverse composers. The concert will take place over several nights in the 2013/2014 season -- at an SF Bay Area location to be announced -- and eventually at venues around the U.S.
In addition to performing the songs (on both voice and electronics) with the ensemble, Amy will compose a 15-20 minute piece for the group and collaborate on lyric-writing with the other commissioned composers, who as of now include Paul Dresher, Lisa Bielawa, Jay Cloidt, Conrad Cummings, Fred Frith, Guillermo Galindo, Carla Kihlstedt, and Pamela Z. The Paul Dresher Ensemble Electro-Acoustic Band features Karen Bentley Pollick, Joel Davel, Marja Mutru, Gene Reffkin, Jeff Anderle, and special guest John Schott.
The project concept was inspired by photographer Diane Arbus’ stunningly poetic 1963 Guggenheim grant application titled American Rites, Manners and Customs, in which she proposes to photograph the everyday people, places and routines of contemporary society, which to generations of the future “will have been so beautiful.” Thus, each composer will find or create a photograph or series of images that speaks to him or her in this regard, and use the images as inspiration for the music. We envision a concert of 10 engagingly diverse musical and visual portraits of our current world.
How your donation will be used
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we hope you will support! For Amy’s role in this project she recently received a $9000 grant from the East Bay Community Foundation. But this grant is contingent on matching funds of an additional $9000 from our donors. So far $3,000 of the match has been received or pledged. We’re hoping to raise the remaining $6,000 through this Kickstarter campaign. If we raise the funds to match the EBCF grant, then each of your dollars is like two dollars! If we don't.... no grant. So please help out with any amount. A little or a lot -- we appreciate all of it.
We're in the initial funding and planning phase of this ambitious
project, and we promise to keep you posted as all the details fall into place. Thank you! for
helping bring brand new adventurous music to life.
xx!
