My name is Karen Goetsch. I'm a woman of many hats. I love playful, honest marketing that includes stories and adventure. I value integrity and handmade items. I love to eat and discover.
My life and business partner, Joe Kalal, is a pastry chef with Celiac. He's been gluten-free for three years and makes amazing gluten-free everything. It wasn't until after going gluten-free and pain-free, but underwhelmed by the food choices, that he went back to school to become a pastry chef.
And so with my business experience, his culinary experience, and our love of all things delicious, natural, local, and handmade that we're starting our own business, Dessert Labs.
I know! We're packaging up treats to send out tomorrow. Not everyone's will go out tomorrow, but you can expect to have yours soon!
When are we getting our treats? I'm so hungry!!!
Simone in Brooklyn gets credit for this one! As a gluten-free family, looking forward to the goodies.
My word we have come a long way when i think back 20yrs (UK&Holland) and the gf bread was some greyish sick ''putty'' matter- All the VERY BEST with yr project- it sounds fabulous. Probably tastes out of this world!
I wanted to bake GF decorated cakes to sell five years ago but never felt I had the time, education or stamina to do it right. When I was first diagnosed there wasn't much available that tasted any good! Thankfully, I love to cook. Thanks to go-getters like you two, it's getting easier to be on this diet. I wish you great success with your venture.
We wish you two all the best!
Yesss!
Hey you two! I wish you all the luck in the world! Miss you and love you both! Love, Mikey!
Dessert Labs has the best goodies ever! Trust me, I have been a guinea pig for Karen and Joe over the last several months, and my mind, body, and spirit could not be happier =) Joe is so meticulous and artistic with his desserts, and they are infused with so much love!
I just heard about you from Craftevolution's blog. I LOVE the idea of a gourmet dessert truck. I don't live in Oakland but do live close enough that we could come out for some fancy desert sometime. And...all of that plus it's gluten-free? Fantastic! We don't eat gluten-free but I know enough people that do to know that a gluten-free bakery would be a fabulous business to have.
