Update #4: A note on Re Evolution

Posted on November 3, 2010

Heartfelt thanks to all who supported our Re Evolution Kickstarter campaign. We had hoped it would grow faster, stronger internet wings, but admittedly it has fallen a bit flat.

Fundraising is challenging. And humbling. I'd be lying if I said this is the fun part. As artists, we throw our lines out - some catch, some don't. We inevitably learn a lot through the process. Whatever the future holds for such ventures is ultimately okay (except, of course, imminent doom), but it sure is more rewarding when an idea takes flight!

That said, with or without initial funding, all of us behind Re Evolution remain excited about the concept and dedicated to continuing a grassroots effort to bridge the arts, sciences and engineering. After all, there are robots to be built and seen! There's science and engineering and a privatized space program to get excited about! If that kind of magic isn’t motivation enough, I'm not sure what is.

Art, like science fiction, has a way of embodying vision beyond its years. Artists are probes, here to push limits and conceptualize ideas. Science and Space are the new frontiers. We at Re Evolution will continue to encourage discovery and interest in these important fields. Through art and entertainment we have the opportunity to make them fun, to ignite a fire that helps make these fields more broadly accessible through educational, artistic and interactive experiences.

Asking for money has never been a skill I've excelled at. But building things? That I can do! We ask for your help in continuing to build Re Evolution by pushing this video out across the wily internets. It would be great to see one last final push before the Nov 9 Kickstarter deadline. In internet time, six days is nearly an eternity. Hey, at least we can't say we didn't try.

Thank you kindly for your support. And here's to science!

Love,
Kasey

Update #3: Imagination...

Posted on September 19, 2010

Dear friends,

Again, thank you all for your support! Wow! It's fantastic and we can't thank you enough.

A little more on what you are helping bring to life…

Re Evolution is about imagination. It's about surprise, about excitement. You know that feeling you get when you see something new or different? When you see the way the world works, or the way the world *can* work in a way that you've never seen it before? When you realize that the world is bigger, crazier, more complicated, yet far more filled with possibility than you ever expected or realized?

It's *that moment* that we are aiming to create. *That moment* sparks creative thinking. It encourages discovery. It's pretty much where curiosity lives. It means we've briefly broken the pattern. In that moment we have the ability to make the world bigger and grander. It's a fabulous gift to be able to give, or to receive. It's a liminal moment, really, where we can lift people's minds and spirits. Imagination is a beautiful thing indeed :)

With Re Evolution, we will creating *that moment* in order to highlight just how exciting science, and engineering can be. We're here to provide real world, spectacular example of science and tech and to give a window into how these feats of engineering come to life…

It's going to be an exciting year - fun, challenging, inspiring - the lot of it! Thank you all for being here. Let's make science and technology fun, eh?

Love,
Kasey & The Re Ev Team

Update #2: Thanking you again and again and again!

Posted on September 16, 2010

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for your contributions to Re Evolution. Putting something like this together takes the effort and support of many and we are tremendously glad you are here.

The idea for Re Evolution has been brewing for quite a while. To actually be making it a reality is a dream come true. A few months back a group of us met up to discuss whether or not we thought the idea was feasible. The answer was a resounding yes, and so it began…. For the last few months we've been setting things in motion - set up a non-profit organization and began the large logistical task of putting the event together. It's fun, challenging and super inspiring to be bringing to life. The support has been overwhelming, and for all of us involved, it feels great to be putting something together that will give us all a chance to to give back. It's going to be an exciting year indeed! Let's make science and technology fun :)

Thanks again for your support. You guys are awesome.

Love,
Kasey and the Re Ev Team

And so we can get to know each other a little better, here's our Manifesto:

MAGICAL REALISM
Wonder inspires curiosity, curiosity drives discovery. Our calling is to manifest the improbable and broadcast the blueprints.

TECHNO-OPTIMISM
We are optimistic about the future and believe that technological advancements can improve life, making the world a better place.

IMAGINATION IS A SUPERPOWER
The human potential for creativity should be celebrated. We spark cross-disciplinary thinking to demonstrate the phenomenal creative capacity all individuals possess.

CROSS-POLLINATION
Through collaboration we do our best work. Richer, bolder ideas come to life. Our philosophy fuses the disciplines of engineering, science and art.

BEAUTY IN NUMBERS
Science and mathematics are tools that help further society. Re Evolution will dramatize these linear disciplines and their ability to help create a more sustainable future.

SOCIAL CONVERGENCE
Re Evolution is participatory and engaging, encouraging person-to-person interaction and bridging the gap between virtual communities and the tangible world. The shared experience of spectacle has infinite power to break down barriers between people of all ages and backgrounds. Come play!

Connected as Kasey McMahon (817 friends)

Re Evolution is a collective of engineers, artists, scientists and technologists working to ignite interest in what science and technology can be: participatory, engaging, exciting and imaginative.

Spearheaded by multimedia artist Kasey McMahon, we are currently working on bringing a large scale industrial science, art and technology festival to life in Los Angeles.

Kasey is a conceptual and multimedia artist based in Los Angeles, California. Her work is driven by her own curiosity regarding our distinctly individual interactions with technology, the world and each other. She is fascinated by the elegant complexity that exists within and between the natural and technological realms: both intricate and untamed in their own ways. Influenced as much by hardware stores and the monsters underneath her bed as by technology and fine art, Kasey believes imagination is a superpower we all possess and encourages the occasional sidestepping of grownup life to recall a child's eager fascination with the mundane.

Re Evolution Inc. is a non-profit corporation registered in the state of California. We are positioned to obtain federal 501c3 status so we can better serve the public good.
