Hey friends!!
From This Fire here. We had a projected vision for the life of the band for 2012, and things started out at full-steam ahead, as they usually do in FTF land, but then life happened (i.e.: bills, mortgages, car payments, insurance costs, growing families, etc.). We've had to delay going into the studio by some months now, while saving everything we had to go into our band account. In order to speed our effort along in creating the best music we have ever created, we thought of Kickstarter immediately to get our fans involved first-hand in getting this album done.
We are friends with many other bands who have gone this route, to much success. We have carefully weighed each incentive to make sense, and, unlike other Kickstarter campaigns, we feature merch items and even an EP exclusively for our friends who contribute. These items you won't be able to get anywhere else unless you're a backer for this, and the EP won't be available on iTunes. It will be for those FTF friends who push us on our journey of making an incredible album to melt faces and continue in the rockin' spirit in which this band was created!
It costs $500 to engineer (record/track) a song at the studio we use. This includes mixing the song as well (usually once tracks are recorded, they are taken to a separate mixing studio with separate mixing fees: our producer provides us with a package all-in-one deal). There will be a total of 18 songs for this project: $9,000.00.
It costs us $100 per song for mastering.
It costs us anywhere from $500-$1,000 for album artwork, depending on who we use for this record.
It costs us around $1,500 for CD replication of the full-length album.
It will cost us around $1,000 to replicate our 4-song semi-acoustic CD exclusively for our Kickstarter peeps!
$14,300 is the total we are going to need for this FTF album, and that is around the budget for a normal album for us.
As you can see, we don't want this Kickstarter campaign to make it seem like we are unfairly taking advantage of our fans. We have thought carefully and thoroughly reviewed all of our incentives to make sure they make sense and that each backer will feel a part of this thing like we do. We have incorporated incentives that you will only be able to get by contributing to this campaign and nowhere else.
And...
we're only setting up the campaign for almost half of what we need to complete our entire goal. We are in this with you, saving every extra bit of money to get this thing started and seen through to the finish line. We do not, nor will we ever, expect our friends to give us the entire amount to see this project through to fruition.
If it happens, and we overshoot our goal, than obviously, that's awesome!! We will pray and believe that this will be the case, but we do not expect to rely so heavily on our friends - we are treating this as a symbiotic relationship, helping each other to get out the best music we can get out.
