An original Kaiju (giant monster) comic series, told in five parts with a funked-out orchestral original music soundtrack.
Welcome! Kodoja: Terror Mountain Showdown features the combined efforts of Keith Foster, Rory Smith, Lance PIlgrim, and the band Big Pimp Jones to create a cinematic comic experience that harkens back to Giant Monster movies of the 60s and 70s. We've come to you and Kickstarter with hope of producing a five-issue comic series that begins the Kodoja story. Thanks for your continued support!
A giant biomechanical monster created by the government activates three years after being shut down by the government's Special Weapons Division and begins a swath of destruction across the countryside. While the 20-story goliath continues its rampage, questions are asked around the activation and the ostracized staff of Special Weapons is tasked to monitor the beast. Meanwhile, something darker and more sinister seems to be at play.
Comics are the Medium We love movies, but with all due respect this is a story meant to be told in comics. With some imagination and far less constraints, we can do things using the comics medium that can't be done in cinema.
A Brand New Story and Mythology
Let's be honest, there can never be enough Giant monster stories out there and it's not like there are many, anyway. Godzilla and Gamera have combined for about 10 new movies since the year 2000 and a trickling of comics. There needs to be more Giant monster destruction out there!
Kaiju Fans + Comic fans + Sci-Fi fans
As huge fans of comic books and kaiju, we like to think this is a story that can appeal to both. There are also elements of shows such as Lost and even the X-Files in the storytelling and characters.
We Can't Do It Without You
With your support we'd love to bring this story to life and complete the first arc of the Kodoja saga. All funds received will directly support the printing / delivery of the comics along the following schedule: Issues 1 and 2 (December 2012), Issue 3 (February 2013), Issue 4 (April 2013) and Issue 5 (June 2013).

While we would love to spend 100% of our time making comics we all have day jobs. Since day job priorities (and personal life priorities) can sometimes get in the way of free-time creativity, that's definitely a risk!
Another challenge is simply distributing the product given successful funding - after all we're not only the creators but we'll be the shipping department for this as well.
Yet another challenge is producing the special incentives for the project - recording the audio for the CD commentary packages, creating the script book, creating the exclusive artwork for certain packages etc.
And of course the unforeseen is always a risk. What if the comic printer loses a shipment? What if the CD manufacturer goes out of business?
How do we address these challenges? Well for one we've worked ahead a little bite. Issues 1 and 2 are complete and issue 3 is already underway - Rory is drawing Issue 3 (with script complete) as Keith tweaks the final script for Issue 4.
Secondly, we love what we're doing and we invest our heart, soul and free-time energy into it. We've already planned sessions to prepare and ship product in the future (where we act as the mailing department), have recording sessions scheduled and have time earmarked to produce everything necessary for the project. While this is fun to us, we take it very seriously and approach this comic book the same way successful companies approach product launches.
Thirdly, we've planned for contingencies. Our day jobs include Art Director and Supply Chain Planner, so we're familiar with deadlines, the value of planning, and the value of contingency planning (to the point where we have identified backup comic book printers and CD manufacturers in the event trouble arises at the primary locations). In the case of the primary suppliers, we have samples of their product (for CDs, comics and Art Prints) and can vouch that they're really good quality. We've planned out a timeline all the way through completion of Issue 5 and the final rewards and look forward to executing that timeline given successful funding. We want to share this story with everyone and will do whatever it takes to make that happen in a timely fashion.
