FILM OR VIRAL VIDEO?

Conceptually, THE NIGHT OF JOE is a short film that’s meant to appear as though it’s a user-uploaded online video. Where traditional storytelling requires rigorous thought, internet content can thrive based on a single, unpredictable event, be it real or fabricated. The basic idea behind TNOJ is that there’s a juncture where these two forms meet, creating a unique experience that pulls the best qualities of both.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

Travis and Sean hate their friend Joe’s girlfriend, Alexis, so they put a plan into motion that will end the relationship once and for all. To ensure its long-term success, however, Travis decides that the event must be recorded, edited, and posted online (which is what we’re watching on screen). With Sean manning the camera, Travis mingles through the party, setting up a domino effect that involves double-crosses, strategically withheld information, and several twists along the way. In the end, by Travis’s design, Alexis irrevocably destroys her relationship with Joe.

What makes TNOJ particularly intriguing, however, is that it unfolds non-sequentially. Basically, due to some missteps taken in the execution and filming of the plan, Travis has edited the event out of order, jumping back and forth from periods before, during, and after the event. This is done so for clarity's sake, but as a result, it reveals information in a manner that makes the video more entertaining to watch. So, in the end, Travis' online video has inadvertently transcended into somewhat of a film with an exciting, heist-type narrative.

WHERE'S MY DOUGH GONNA GO?

At this point we've raised enough money to shoot THE NIGHT OF JOE, but without your help the project will literally come to a standstill. To fund the post-production process (editing, sound design, etc.) we need the financial backing of anyone and everyone who would like to see this film come to fruition. Hopefully you're anyone and everyone.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?

THE NIGHT OF JOE is a production from The Lifelong Weekend, an L.A.-based trio comprised of filmmakers Joe Harkenrider, t.j. peters, and Josh Golden. Together they produce online comedy sketches and develop scripts for television and film. Our mantra: We are motivated slackers in pursuit of the lifelong weekend.

THE NIGHT OF JOE has a fantastic cast, comprised of some of the best up-an-coming comedians in L.A. Look them up and see what we mean.

DESTINATION

Our end goal with the THE NIGHT OF JOE is to make a run in the film festival circuit, with specific emphasis on the west coast. Since we live in Los Angeles, we want to be able to attend as many of the festivals we're accepted to as possible. However, we will no doubt be submitting our project nationwide, specifically to major festivals such as SXSW, Slamdance, and the Chicago International Film Festival.
