About this project

Update: We're unbelievably thankful for all those who have contributed to our film.  All additional funding will help us develop our live show into something fantastic, and enable us to take it on the road for people all over the world to see!

What is Girl Walk // All Day? We're making an epic, 71-minute dance music video set to All Day, the new album by mash-up musician Girl Talk (aka Gregg Gillis). The idea behind Girl Walk // All Day emerged from our desire to expand the boundaries around the idea of the traditional music video, which usually spans the length of a single track. This album-length piece will feature a talented group of dancers across a range of public and private spaces around New York City, turning the city's sidewalks and obstacles into part of an evolving improvisational dance routine. The piece will be available for free online in short, serialized segments and we also plan to screen the full-length film in public spaces, and at festivals, concerts, parties, and beyond, inspiring an interactive viewing experience that will evolve into a series of dance parties around the globe.

What's the story? A young dancer finds herself disgruntled with her low-paying, mundane waitressing job. One day, she impulsively quits, then takes a ferry to the city. Feeling incredibly inspired by what she sees, Anne dances her way across New York, using the city as her stage. Throughout her journey, she meets characters of all types, including a series of like-minded dancers, who'll inspire new movements, engage her in small battles, and teach her to fear, love, laugh and live anew. From the ferry to museums, subways, ball games, bridges, bodegas, graveyards, flower shops, and more, Anne's journey will bring her far and wide. Who's involved? Jacob is the director and handling the camera. Anne, John and Dai are our core dancers, with additional dancers joining throughout the project. Youngna is assisting with behind-the-scenes production. We are a growing team of talented creatives, including producers, web gurus, dance fanatics and visual artists.

How does Kickstarter work? Kickstarter is a platform for funding creative projects. In exchange for your support, we offer a variety of rewards and our incredible gratitude. Funding is all-or-nothing, so we must raise our full $4,800 to move forward with this project! If we don't make our goal, nobody will be charged. We think this is an exciting way to bring lots of people in on our creative endeavor, and hope you do too.

What are the rewards? Take a look to the right and check out the rewards for contributions of all levels. We plan to complete editing by the end of June and send out DVDs during the summer. We'll have an additional graphic of the poster here soon.

  Where will the funds go? We plan to film across six days this spring and complete it this summer. Funds will go toward production expenses like transportation and food for the crew and producing DVDs. Equipment expenses include hard drives, camera stabilizers, a projector for public screenings – so we can bring our project to your rooftops, local parks, storefronts and block parties! Making a film is expensive work, even if it's a project with tons of volunteer effort such as Girl Walk // All Day. Humbly + hopefully: we need your help!
