Designers edition book showcasing experimental typography and postdigital printmaking techniques by 21 emerging international artists.
This designer's edition book will showcase the Vista Sans Wood Type Project, initiated in 2012 by Tricia Treacy and Ashley John Pigford. For the VSWTP, we created letterpress wood type from the typeface Vista Sans™, (designed by Xavier Dupré for Emigre) with a self-built CNC router. We then sent 5 wood type letters, (spelling "touch") with paper, (donated by Legion Paper of New York) to twenty international artists to see what they would do with it. What we got back was AMAZING, and we want to share this with the world.

The Vista Sans Wood Type Project localizes postdigital practice as a specific project involving contemporary graphic design, typography, letterpress printmaking and international collaboration.

It was included in the recent book: Post-Digital Printmaking: CNC, Traditional and Hybrid Techniques by Paul Catanese and Angela Geary, 2012.
Most contemporary artists and designers are embracing a hybrid, cross-disciplinary approach to practice. This book will describe, in their own words, the ideas, process and methodology of each participant involved in the project (in addition to a high quality reproduction of their final print.) These processes vary widely and represent a fresh and innovative approach to letterpress printing in the wake of the digital revolution.

`We have an ambitious plan to design, produce, distribute and release this self-published book in May, 2013. The obstacles that may arise are based on other people involved. For example: if a commissioned writer is late in delivering their essay, or if a participant is unavailable for an interview for an extended period of time.
This said, we have a lot of experience in managing and completing projects of this scope and we feel confident that we can make it happen in the time frame we are proposing.
We have already committed 18 months of time (and money,) making the VSWTP successful, and we feel it is important that this project culminate in a book that will enable the work and innovative printmaking processes of the artists to reach many more hands than those that have attended exhibitions. We are aware that this project will take a considerable amount of our personal time and we are sincerely dedicated to its success.
