New Gisueppi Logan CD is in! "And They Were Cool"

Update #3 · May 10, 2013 · comment

Hi Folks,

The new Giuseppi Logan CD of the June 2012 NYC session is in! Since many of you supported both Kickstarter projects forgive us if you are receiving duplicate updates.  We have received limited quantities for sale of the new Giuseppi Logan CD from our partner label in France.  See the store at  www.edpettersen.com to order  This is the brilliant follow up to the Kickstarter project The Giuseppi Logan project which many of you graciously supported.

And They Were Cool recaptures the compositional genius of Logan's sixties heyday.  As you know Giuseppi Logan was a contemporary of Albert Ayler, John Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders and an accomplished sax player, as well as clarinet, flute and piano player. This pure free jazz album pairs Logan with young sax talent Jessica Lurie, an accomplished artist in her own right and the dualing saxes add tension and push Giuseppi to his full potential.  With improving health and a sound supporting cast,  Larry Roland on bass and Ed Pettersen on guitar and effects, Logan's playing rivals the previous works for which he is reknown. Recorded at the highest fidelity and mastered by one of the great mastering engineers, And They Were Cool delivers on performance, fidelity and composition to create a rare gem for improv lovers to add to their collection. Label: Improvising Beings in partnership with the Mad King Edmund Collective. CD only.

This is the record that I dreamed of making when I first went in search of Giuseppi Logan and I can't wait to share it with my fellow jazz lovers and Giuseppi supporters.

Track Listings:

Will "And They Were Cool" be available?

Update #2 · Jan 21, 2013 · comment

Hi Folks,

The Kickstarter project to press vinyl for "And They Were Cool", the second record from Giuseppi Logan came to a close this weekend without hitting its funding goal.  This does NOT mean the record is lost to us as you will have one or more opportunities to get your mitts on a copy, although it may not be vinyl.    We'll be receiving a small shipment of CDs from the French pressing from Improvising Beings in March.  As soon as they are in, we'll message you about how to purchase online at the edpettersen.com website.

We're also very excited that a US jazz label seems keen on releasing the record and we are actively pursuing that opportunity.  The label has done vinyl pressings in the past, so we are hopeful this fine record may make it to vinyl eventually.  This label is very familiar with Giuseppi's work and was blown away by his performance on "And They Were Cool' so fingers crossed and we'll keep you posted.

Thanks for the incredible show of support.  It has been great to interact with such passionate jazz fans and kind hearted souls.

More to come...

Reaching Goal

Update #1 · Jan 14, 2013 · comment

Hi Folks,

Thanks so much to those who pledged toward the project to press vinyl for "And They Were Cool", the new recording which features Giuseppi on both sax and piano for some rare jazz improv.  Our message seems to have gotten lost in the blogosphere as we received many delighted comments on the The Giuseppi Logan Project but only about 20% of the vinyl pledgers have re-upped for "And They Were Cool".  We know some of the former pledges were in support of Giuseppi and the music rather than vinyl itself, and the numbers are not looking great for vinyl demand right now even thought we think it's out there. The good news is that the record will come out on CD regardless.

However, if you think it's cool to press vinyl and want to know how you can help.... help us get the message out by sending along the Kickstarter link to just one fellow jazz lover.  A crazy jazz lover like you must know one or more folks that share your enthusiasm.

If we don't reach goal in four days, we'll update you with next steps.  If some possible press comes about after the project closes it's possible we will relaunch a shorter campaign on Kickstarter or similar venue.  If the push to press vinyl does not succeed, we'll let you know how you can purchase CD or download online.   But let's give it one last push...http://kck.st/T0su73 tweet it. email it, copy the widget and post it on your website.... it just takes one hit apiece to finish what we started.  This is your project as much as ours.... go team!

Regards,

Mad King Edmund
