About this project
My project is "The Kevin Kammeraad and Friends Puppet Theatre." I will explore the wonder of imagination through puppetry, music, and movement, bringing families together through laughter and play. My performances will be interactive, musical, improvisational, a bit quirky, and intended for all ages. Over a period of 19 days, as part of ArtPrize (September 21 - October 9, 2011), I will perform 114 scheduled shows just outside of the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. Featuring a brand new puppet (of myself!), and my sidekick Ollie Winston (made out of a big copper can), I will be performing in my unique, vintage material, hand-made puppet theatre. This new show will have kids and families laughing, singing, dancing, and inspired.
At this event I will also be debuting my brand new CD "The Monkeys Go Marching."
Every song is a song that you'll start expanding on your own, rethinking the possibilities with it, and performing with your own twists! Many of these songs I'll be performing through the puppet theatre. (It's like the soundtrack to the show!). Copies of this CD arrive literately on the day ArtPrize begins! Whew!
I've already devoted a substantial amount of money and time into this project. Here's what we still need to find funding for:
- Building a stage for the theatre; this will increase visibility for the audience, keep the theatre off the wet morning grass, and create a more dynamic environment
- Fine tuning the functionality and appearance of the theatre itself
- Paying the recording expenses of the new CD; our audio engineer graciously gave us 60 days to pay
- Posters and flyers to let people know about the show
- A film crew to document some of the performances so we can capture and share the performances with others

Kevin loves to write, draw, sing, make things, and wonder about possibilities. He is an award-winning children's author and artist of several books and CDs who loves to collaborate with other artists.
Each year, Kevin brings his creativity and love of writing, art, music, and reading to elementary schools, libraries, festivals, and conferences all over the world. His programs are dynamic, age appropriate, educational, and down-right fun. Through puppetry, music, poetry, audience participation, multimedia, and humor, Kevin captivates people of all ages. Since the start of his career, Kevin has visited over 1,000 elementary schools.
Kevin's newest collaborative CD "And a Happy New Year" is a Mom’s Choice Awards® Gold Recipient and winner of three other national awards.
Kevin grew up in Holland, Michigan and currently lives in Grand Rapids with his wife, son, daughter, cat, and two turtles in a home filled with books, music, friends, recycle bins, toys, and tortilla chips.
