Greetings Detropians!

Our experience at Silverdocs - one of the premiere nonfiction film festivals in the country -  has been amazing this weekend. Both DETROPIA screenings completely  sold out and two more were added due to demand. Clearly Detroit and the issues it is dealing with is on the mind of people in our nation's capitol.

We participated in several events at the fest, including teaching a class, being guests on a documentary talk show (go figure!) and participating in a special post-screening panel moderated by the Washington Post. The discussion focused on the future of cities like Detroit and what can be done to help them get on their feet, innovate and move forward. A taste of our experience is below!

We have only 4 days left on on Kickstarter campaign. We continue to add cities to our release as more contributions come in. Help us reach 1000 backers by sending our campaign to friends who may want to join DETROPIA's independent release!

FINAL WEEK! AND WE ARE OFF TO DC WITH DETROPIA!

HALLO DETROPIANS!

We are in the final week of our campaign and continue to raise contributions that we will use to open the film in more cities. Because of your support we have begun booking cinemas in earnest, including places that just don't get enough of us indies. Meet us in Madison and Pittsburgh folks, cause we are coming! And we could not have done it with out your solidarity and support.

Any Washingtonians who would like a sneak peak before we open in DC (Sept. 14) come see us at Silverdocs Film Festival in Silver Spring MD this Thursday and Friday. Friday's morning screening will be followed by a moderated discussion where we will join some smarty pants policy guys who have ideas about what we can do with places that face the same issues as Detroit. MORE PLEDGES = MORE CITIES AND MORE THEATERS!

Nobody likes being called a "secondary market." Cleveland, Akron, Madison, Tucson, Santa Fe, PIttsburgh...the list goes on and on. It's a big country! 

Independent documentaries rarely see the light of day in these awesome places that need and want to join the discussion. We have  a huge opportunity now to change that with DETROPIA.

We have two weeks left to this campaign. Every contribution past our goal will go toward adding even more cities to our release. You have been so generous and supportive so far - please help us in these final 13 days. If you haven't given yet, please consider. Last night we had the strangest dream...

We woke up this morning in shock. You have done the unthinkable and brought us to our goal in only 14 days. We don't know how to express to you how that makes us feel. Every documentary filmmaker toils for years with the hopes that eventually the work will be shared. You are making that a reality.

The story of Detroit is the story of all of us. The city and this country are both at a crossroads. Which way will we go? The story of this epic city and its struggles can act as a springboard for a productive conversation so many of us want to have. The generous support, encouraging notes and emotional stories you sent to us from all over the world inspires us to double our efforts: we will do everything we can do get this film seen far and wide. Every penny that continues to come in for the remainder of this campaign will go towards more cities, more screenings. Cleveland, Phoenix, Baltimore, Atlanta or New Orleans, anyone? We are fully committed to this quest.

In the meantime, have a look at the strange dream we had last night. Coincidentally it is also a scene from DETROPIA, scored by incredibly talented Detroit composer DIAL.81.
