Help me get my colorful, new line of hand-printed linen and leather bags into production - and into your hands!
I'm a printmaker. I've been silkscreening since 2008. I started out printing art prints on paper, and then moved to printing on linen and making small bags. The bags were a huge hit! But demand for them has grown way faster than I can make them.
My studio is in my apartment. I create all my designs by hand, instead of on a computer, and cut and print the fabric myself. I usually sew my bags, too. With the growth in demand for my bags, I've decided it's time to grow this business and go bigger and work with a manufacturer who will cut and sew my bags.
And while I'm at it, I might as well totally redo my bag line - make them bigger (hello, tote bags!), and stronger, and give them leather handles. I've made sample bags and have met with local manufacturers. I've also found a place where I can print my bags that's not in my apartment. I'm pretty much ready to go into production!
Right now, I'm looking at making two sizes of bags - a larger tote and either a cross-body bag or a small, handheld tote. They will be ready to ship in mid-January (a little late for the holidays, but early for the spring season). If I raise more than my goal, I will either produce an extra size, or a bigger run.
Right now, I'm looking at making two sizes of bags - a larger tote and either a cross-body bag or a small, handheld tote. They will be ready to ship in mid-January 2013 (a little late for the holidays, but early for the spring season). If I raise more than my goal, I will either produce an extra size, or a bigger run.
I'm so proud of these bags; they are some of my best work. But I need your help to get them into production so I'm asking for your help to get this new project launched.
Please fund my project and make this new line a reality!
If you're wondering where the funds are going, here's a breakdown:
Materials and manufacturing: $5500
Kickstarter and Amazon fees: $450
Studio rental: $300
Patterns and samples: $300
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I have run a manufacturing business in the past and am so aware of the potential risks - production delays, materials shortages, etc. - that come with a new product launch. I've worked hard to source reputable, local manufacturers and suppliers that I can regularly visit and project manage.
I also have a few retail stores who are interested in purchasing my bags, once they're made. I know that if I can just get these made, they'll be a huge hit! (Have you seen them? They're adorable!)
At this point, really, my biggest obstacle is start-up capital, and that's where your help is key.
Please support this project. You'll get a bag or two, I'll be able to make a lot of them, and the world will have access to some amazing, hand-printed bags.
