Shipping update. Survey Results.
Hey Kickstarters!! First I would like to thank every one of you for your incredible patience! Dave and I are very anxious to get all of you your Joulies as quickly as we possibly can. We are starting to get a lot of inquires about individual order status, and rightfully so. We try to follow up on every single one, but it might take a day or two. As of right now all of the first 500 backers (with the exception of coffee shop pack backers) have been shipped. We have around 1500 more personal packs ready to go when shipping resumes later this week. Other materials are filtering in from our suppliers over the course of the next couple weeks which will allow us to ship more enthusiast packs and begin to ship coffee shop packs with acceptable retail packaging.
Backers can check their “spot in line” with this spreadsheet created by one of our helpful backers. http://goo.gl/Y7ltv
Now for some updates on our progress and what's really going on at CJHQ.
We sent a customer satisfaction survey to the first 500 customers to try to understand more about how people are using Joulies and what they really think of them. 174 people responded. (Thank you!) Let's dive right into the data:
First we asked a series of questions about backers' existing coffee drinking experience. Some of the results were surprising.
Lots of people add things to their coffee.
These were pretty straightforward.
OMG! Us too!
Whoa. That's a ton of ceramic cups. We figure that there must be a lot of sit-down-and-enjoy-at-home coffee drinkers in this group of early adopters. OK.
Now. How is everyone using their Joulies?
A large portion of people are using what we consider to be a small number of Joulies (2 or 3) in their cups. While three is appropriate in some situations, two will almost always give a very modest effect. Cooling down coffee (or keeping it hot) requires a similar amount of energy transfer and storage as an analogous ice-in-soda situation. Imagine trying to cool down a full glass of room temperature soda with two or three ice cubes... more on this later.
(Other means yes) No surprises here.
Compare this to the type of container graph above and we can see that most people aren't really willing to change their vessel of choice just to get a better Joulies experience. Not surprising. Same thing goes for lids:
Now lets talk about customer satisfaction. How many people were happy with the product that they received? Overall results first followed by some situational breakdowns:
After reading the "other" responses and assigning them to a category, we come out with a total of 87% of people either satisfied or very satisfied. We are pretty happy with this result. But we're not going to just stop there. Now, you really can't please everyone, but, we'll be damned if we're not going to try.
So, Joulies are either performing or performing very well in most (but not all) situations. Let's see if we can pull some more information out of this.
Break down satisfaction by container type:
Or number of joulies used:
Below average satisfaction values are in orange. They tend to be worst in the poorest insulating containers with the fewest number of Joulies.
OK OK. Enough data. What does it all mean?
Dave and I were extremely anxious to get some real customer feedback, from a few thousand hours of people actually using Joulies in their everyday life and giving their honest opinion. Joulies are extremely unique, there really has never been a product like it, and we didn't exactly have a modest launch when our project went viral in 2 days and received so much support from you, our backers. Does it live up to the hype? Does it really make a difference for the people who put their trust in us and the earliest of adopters?
The feedback we have received so far points overwhelmingly towards yes. But, we're not through yet. We are taking all of this information that we collected and creating a new instruction sheet out of it. It will help explain how everyone can get the best Coffee Joulies experience. There are several things to keep in mind:
-You first have to get heat into your Coffee Joulies; only then will they release it later and keep your drink hot longer.
-Total drinking time is entirely dependent on your choice of drinking vessel. If you tend to drink your coffee in one sitting and want it cooler-faster, you have your choice. If you need hours of delicious perfect temperature coffee drinking, you are going to need a vessel that stands up to the challenge like a vacuum insulated thermos.
- Find the ratio of Joulies to coffee that works the best for your specific situation, starting with our recommendations.
As we prepare to blast out the next several thousand sets of Coffee Joulies with an improved instruction sheet, we will continue to collect your feedback and opinions and make changes as we go.
Thanks for your tremendous help and patience, and thanks to those of you who have helped us out with the survey so far.
