Editing and completing a documentary about Theatre Novi Most's 2010 production "The Oldest Story in the World"

We are asking for money to fund the completion of a full length documentary film "In Company with Theatre Novi Most: devising Gilgamesh". It follows our Minneapolis based theatre company Theatre Novi Most through one year of rehearsals, design meetings, workshops and finally performances as we stage a new work, "The Oldest Story in the World".  This physical theatre performance is based on the ancient Mesopotamian epic of Gilgamesh and premiered in Oct 2010 in Minneapolis.

The film will show the way a devised piece of theater gets made from early conversations with director, actors, scholars, playwright and designers to script sessions and physical improvisations -- including in this specific project, Kallaripayattu and Biomechanics training which the actors did to generate the physical vocabulary of the piece.  The film will also include interviews with actors and the creative team about what it means to work on a project that takes years to develop, includes artists from several states and does not start with a finished script.  The film will explore how this method differs from the usual models in place for new play development in the regional theatre system in the U.S.

Film maker Megan Lewis and director Lisa Channer are the partners on this project. Megan shot many hours of footage over two years and we are ready to edit the final film with the goal of finishing it by fall 2012. The money we raise will go directly to pay editors, studio time and marketing of the final film.

We already have an 8 minute rough edit to show.  See it here:
