- Melissa Clarke is a Brooklyn, NY interdisciplinary artist, who has exhibited widely in New York City and internationally, including: Issue Project Room, NY; the Electronic Music Foundation, NY; the Queens Museum, NY; and the International Biennial of Contemporary Art ULA-2010, Venezuela. Her audio-visual works have been published and commissioned by labels such as Contour Editions, Barge Recordings and Textura. Clarke received her masters from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, with a two year Tisch School of the Arts Fellowship. With her recent installation project, Untitled Antartica, Clarke endeavors to reconnect seismic data collected from beneath Antarctic glaciers with its organic source. Using sound, video projection, wood, and glass sculpture, she creates immersive neolandscapes giving physical form to the information collected about the giant landmass and the terrain beneath the seas surrounding it.
Many thanks, and see you on June 4th!

Update #5: Welcome Aboard Lisa and Melissa!
Dear generous and patient backers,
I want to welcome two very talented artists to the team!
Lisa Lebofsky is a painter residing in Bronx, NY. Her work furthers the landscape as a metaphor for the transcendent psyche. She has an MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art and BFA in metals from SUNY New Paltz. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows nationally and internationally. She teaches fine art classes at private and public institutions in the New York Metro area. Among several awards and residencies, she is a recent Platte Clove Artist in Residence in upstate New York.

Lisa has a kickstarter campaign well on it's way to raise funds for her portion of the trip! Please help her out if you can! We still have roughly $20,000 to go to complete the boat payments, so helping Lisa helps everyone on the team! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1328136648/plein-air-painting-excursion-in-greenland?ref=live

Rewards
If you are waiting for a postcard, you are in luck! I am headed to the post office as soon as I finish this post, so you should expect it in the next few days.
If you are waiting for a print, it will just be a little while longer... they are scheduled to arrive at my home on April 23/24, and I will let you know as soon as I get them into envelopes and on their way to you!
Thank you
My dear backers, I leave you with a "sneak preview" of one of the Geneva ballet drawings that your generous patience allowed me to create! Thank you!!!
Update #4: News on your rewards, the team, and more!
A few items to update you on...
Rewards
Thank you so much for your patience. I am still working day and night to complete the set design drawings, and thankfully they are coming along. I am producing more than I ever knew I could in such a short period of time! My hope is to have the rewards on their way to you by May 15th (unless of course you are getting a drawing inspired by the trip!). I will let you know as soon as the shipment goes out. If your address will have changed by then, please let me know asap.
Ayaka Nishina will be with us in spirit
I am very sad to say that the talented Japanese composer Ayaka Nishina will no longer be joining us in Greenland due to her family's increasingly dangerous situation, near Fukushima, Japan. Instead she will stay home and focus her efforts on raising money for her family, and her non-profit organization: http://savejapanbenefits.org/
On a more uplifting note, I am very excited to...
Welcome Aboard Michael Lapides!
Michael is Curator of Photography and Director of Digital Initiatives at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. He is currently spearheading a group of projects related to the Arctic. These include the modern republication of William Bradford’s book The Arctic Regions: Illustrated with Photographs Taken on an Art Expedition, and the development of the exhibit opening spring of 2013, which will relate to the 1869 “voyage for art” which this book depicts. The exhibit (which will include work created from Chasing the Light) will use the extensive Arctic and ethnographic collections of the Museum to explore intersections between art, commerce, science, and human impact on, and understanding of the environment. Chasing the Light will help to provide a contemporary framework for developing these ideas.
Fundraiser at SPiN NYC, May 31st
Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event that the team is putting together. Even though my portion is covered thanks to all of YOU, we still have a long way to go before the entire boat is paid for.
