WindyLight™ is a family of self-sufficient outdoor lights that perform on free, clean energy and create a unique and sensual illuminating experience.
Our lights are designed to dance to the rhythm of soft gusts of wind and to provide light even in the urban environment.
Every WindyLight™ is made from our unique WindyWheels which are pinwheel like modules that collect wind energy and transforms it to electrical current allowing the integrated LEDs to shine through. With several WindyWheels we create the collection of lighting solutions for both private and public sectors.
With this campaign you are invited to support the development of our first product: a standalone one module WindyLight™ that you may place on your window, or in your garden or balcony.
Launching the product will also support us in creating urban lighting installations in prominent locations around the world followed by community activities to stimulate creative thinking towards sustainability design solutions.
Buisiness Vision
The revenues from WindyLight's first prototypes will be invested in the R&D of the additional models and in developing a WindyLight module that is especially designed for communities that are not connected to the grid. WindyLights aims to develop a “high value fair profit” business model in which the for-profit activities of the business create revenues that support not-for-profit product development for communities in need.
Current stage of development
WindyLight is shifting into its second phase of R&D. The first phase was dedicated to the development of the WindyWheel module which included: An aerodynamic empiric study and engineering, detailed design, refinement of lighting fixture and electrical engineering. This phase was funded by a grant awarded by the AOL artists grant program.
Our next phase of R&D will include: optimization of the WindyWheel prototype and further testing, material engineering towards manufacturing, electrical engineering towards manufacturing. Establishing a production line for windyWheel.
Team
WindyLight is a startup project developed by ‘S-Sense Design’, a sustainability design firm that designs and develops solutions for sustainable living.
In S-Sense Design we work towards a vision in which sustainability design solutions create a direct link between renewable resources and everyday human needs and give life to a fresh encounter between men, object and environment based on a deep sense of participation.

We set this challenging goal since the campaign is based on backers pledging funds for the promise of receiving a one module WindyLight within 12 months. Wewant to work from integrity and promise products only if we know we have the funds to complete the product’s R&D.

Adital Ela is a sustainability designer and teacher, founder and CEO of S-SENSE DESIGN, and a TEDfellow.
She holds 15 years of experience in designing products and in creative direction and management of design teams and projects in various design fields.
Adital dedicates her professional life to explore ways in which sustainability design can envision, illustrate and enable the realization of new and inviting life habits that can thoroughly reform the encounter between man, object and environment.
She lectures regularly at conferences and leads workshops around the world touching upon various aspects of design for sustainability.
Adital lectures at the BA and MA programs of HIT-Holon Institure of Technology.
