IN HAITI tells the story of two friends, on a unique road trip in a country packed with blue helmets, no trees, and brave people.

In 2008, two years before the devastating earthquake, we traveled through Haiti to make a documentary, that would describe a different side of the country, apart of just poverty and violence. We explored the reasons for Haiti's situation, and discovered a country with a rich history, and a fascinating religion called Voodoo. Since Florian was born in Haiti we got a lot of help from different people, and inside views of the country. We traveled for one month, and were lucky to get some astonishing footage that we want to share with everybody. We hope that this movie will give you a new viewpoint on Haiti beyond just the usual news footage you can find in the mass media. 

When we began planning the project we hoped to make a movie that we could show in local cinemas, or at public screenings at our University. However, things changed in the last 4 years and it has become easier to share media with the whole internet community. 

This is a non-profit movie, just an honest project to do a documentary about our trip to Haiti. Our goal is to finish this road movie and share it with everybody for free! 

Why should you support this project?

Because you will get a very distinct inside view into the country, unlike the usual TV news reports.

You will hear some distinctive anecdotes that are typical for this country and that show its beauty.

Because without your help it will never see the light of day.

What will we do with the funding? 

We need funding to cover all the various post production costs, ranging from making an animation to explain the tragic and incredible history of the country, to the costs of editing the movie and designing the poster. We also want to make a webpage to promote the movie.

Who are the people behind this Project?

Florian is from Haiti, Fabian is from Germany and Leron is from the US. Each one of them are scientists. However, they are working together in order to make IN HAITI, a film about a unique road trip in a very special country!

Florian Wiesner is the guy directing, editing and producing the movie. He used to work in a lab with stem cells of plants. After the Haitian earthquake in 2010 he worked in Haiti with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Florian loves Haiti. He is taking a year off in order to finish this documentary project. His dream is to spread it on the internet for free and get your feedbacks. 

Fabian Bohnet-Waldraff is the guy behind the camera and the other producer of this documentary. He just finished his diploma degree in theoretical physics, and now works full time on this movie. He has backpacked in many countries in his life, however, he describes his Haitian trip as the most intense and memorable journey of his life.   

Dr Leron Katsir is our creative and music adviser. A native Floridian, Leron left the sunny skies of Miami and is currently a Postdoctoral fellow in Freiburg, Germany. He assesses how plants establish and maintain stem cells and then  guide them through differentiation. He always says he would have loved to be a farmer! With a passion for supporting cool projects, and a soft spot for the Beats, you can always expect to be greeted with an open heart/house
