Soviet Town tileset achieved! New stretch goal at $150,000!
We've reached $141,960 with 13 hours left to go, so the Soviet Town tileset has been confirmed. I'm pleased about this for two reasons; firstly because it'll add more variety to the game and secondly it'll make the game feel a bit more more global. The Cold War setting of the game is a bit meaningless if the USSR doesn't feature much, but that'll be a lot less of a concern now. Plus, blocky Soviet architecture is perfect for a tile-based battlefield too!
So, the next stretch goal is miles away at $165,000. It's possible we could get there based on how good the last 24 hours has been, but really the milestone we're interested in is $150,000 - it's a nice round number and represents 300% funding for us.
Tileset-specific AI soldiers would be nice to have in the game, and if we can share rigs and animations with our existing models then (hopefully) it won't be vast amounts of work. So if we can hit $150,000 and our 300% funding milestone, we'll put them in.
Based on yesterday, we could probably raise another $8,000 in the last 13 hours with or without the new stretch goal, but we've had a really good run in the last couple of days and we want you guys to be celebrating it just as much as we are!
This will probably be our last update before the Kickstarter closes. I just wanted to say that we really appreciate all the support given to us all the way through the project, and the Kickstarter has been a great experience for us. Not only did it raise a vast amount of money for us to spend on development, but it hauled us out of our development bubble and put us in very direct contact with thousands of backers and lots of views we wouldn't necessarily have encountered otherwise.
This has not always been a comfortable experience, but it's made us change our approach on a few things and given us food for thought on others. On reflection, I think it has been helpful for Xenonauts and will be for any future projects we work on too.
Overall it's been a great 33 days and I hope the next 13 hours are even better! Thanks everyone!

CONGRATS GUYS !!!!! DONE with almost 160 % funds raised ! Viva el juego independiente ! :))))
Creator Gustaf Carstam on June 10, 2012
It seems like I've never gotten this downloadable content issue. I thought any extra content through digital distribution was downloadable content. I also thought that DLC didn't necessarily mean you had to pay for it.
Creator Nicholas Vitek on June 10, 2012
In my opinion, there is a difference between an "Expansion" and "DLC".
DLC: Something that may add more of what already exists. More missions, second story line, extra characters.
Expansion: Something that adds new effects to the game that don't already exist. Underwater missions, satellites.
DLC gives you more things to do the old way. Expansions give you more ways to do stuff. You could call it Substance vs Fluff.

Creator Shiki on June 10, 2012
I am also up for a expansion.
Creator ThomasN on June 10, 2012
I'm with Alen. It's called "Addon" or "Expansion" and not that name which was invented by some big corporations a while ago
Creator clippedwolf on June 10, 2012
Yes! AI soldiers.
Creator Shiki on June 10, 2012
150k$! Reached Banzai!
Creator Alexander K on June 10, 2012
I'm all for the expansion movement. You have much untapped potential, even if we consider only things that are in unattained stretch goals.
If you can afford it, offering continuous free updates is a great way to build up reputation. That, of course, is highly dependent on sales.
But even if you cannot, or do not want to, there are two things you can do.
1) You can make a big content pack, name it "expansion", and sell it. People WILL buy it.
2) Or, you can make the game highly moddable, allowing people to add content themselves. It's a Pandora's box, but in a case of such a dedicated fanbase as X-COM lovers, one can expect high-quality content over time.
Please do not stop supporting the project after you go gold! Making a "spiritual successor" to X-COM is a high and noble goal - with a ton of responsibility.
Creator Jason Christopher Faught on June 10, 2012
I'm with Oak, please consider at some point adding under water salvage missions. I absolutely hated losing out on alien tech simply because they got shot down over water.
Creator Mats Tönnehag on June 10, 2012
Its a bit early to say but my hopes will probebly be with a possible expansion pack :P
Creator Alen Piljak on June 10, 2012
If the sales are good, do a proper expansion, and please call it "expansion" not "DLC". I cringe whenever I read/hear that vile term.
Creator Oak on June 10, 2012
Xenonauts: Horror from the Abyss?
Creator Rune Fostervoll on June 10, 2012
What next? An expansion pack, of course. :)
(Depends a bit on how it sells of course, but still.). For my part I am a great fan of indie projects, and sometimes old games, because that's where you find creativity and a will to take risks with a project. It is somewhat like watching non-hollywood movies. They may not be as polished, but they can actually surprise you.
Creator Nicholas Vitek on June 10, 2012
Something to think about adding would be a patch later to add more tilesets, equipment, vehicles, aliens and a secondary story line. You could even charge us.
Creator Goldhawk Interactive on June 10, 2012
I'm not sure what we'll work on after Xenonauts is done. We've gotta get it finished first. One step at a time!
Creator JJL on June 10, 2012
oh well, at least we get tileset allies and one tileset... Thats better than no tilesets and no allies :3
Creator GASNIER AURELIEN on June 10, 2012
Dear Golden Hawk, many thanks for this project. I am very glad you reached 140 k$ (and maybe 150 k$). Once the project is done, do you plan working on extension ? Other similar project ? Something completly different ? Cheers !!!

This caused me to up my Pledge, too. It's important for immersion.
An aerial combat resolver would lift me to the $125+shipping level, but that amount wouldn't make a difference to you, anyway.
Creator Daltrain on June 10, 2012
Bumped myself up to a $50 pledge, the most I can reasonably spend on a uni-student budget, so good luck guys!
Creator Alexander K on June 10, 2012
Increasing my pledge for that to happen. The soldiers really need to be there, immersion-wise.
Creator Henry D. C. Williams on June 10, 2012
Brilliant news! Good luck with the last 13 hours :)
