Story of a Sleeping Man follows Bill Mitty, a young writer caught somewhere between imagination and vision, attempting to find inspiration while working his day job as a patient care facilitator.
Overworked and overtired, Bill’s creative apparitions shadow him through the hospital. His characters come to life, then quickly fade back into his consciousness as he goes about his day.
Sneaking around the hospital to write in his notebook, he comes across a patient in a room he has never visited. A soldier wounded in the war lies stationary in the hospital bed and begins to tell Bill a story about love, war, grief and understanding: his story.
Bill writes it down, hoping for a revelation to come to him.
Set in a hospital in the near future, Story of a Sleeping Man blends imagination and reality through the eyes of a character who has difficulty distinguishing both.
Who We Are
We are a class of about 20 students, mostly Film Majors, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. By making this film, we are getting class credit, thesis credit and experience in all facets of the independent film industry. Story of a Sleeping Man is a film written, directed and produced entirely by our class. If we succeed in funding and completing the film, we will have (albeit in a small way) re-structured the way independent Study Programs are thought of at the University level.
Where Your Contribution Goes
All of the funding we raise will go directly into production expenses for the film. The funds will cover costs like equipment rental, travel expenses, props, pyrotechnics and post-production costs. We have also set up a number of one-of-a-kind rewards for your contributions; who knows, they might be collector's items someday!
