A narrative surf film based on the best-selling memoir, Saltwater Buddha
After three years of hard work, DIY fortitude, and help from countless wonderful friends, Nohoch Productions has managed to film the entire story of Jaimal Yogis’s best-selling coming-of-age memoir, Saltwater Buddha.
We’ve traveled to Hawaii, New York, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and around northern California to capture the gritty and gorgeous details of Jaimal’s tale in a way that surfers, ocean-o-philes and land-lovers will relate to. We’re so close to being able to put this story that has changed so many lives (not to mention been praised by the likes of The Times of London, The AGE, and The Huffington Post) onto the silver screen. All we need is a little help from you to finish the editing and cover a few of our equipment costs.
We believe Saltwater Buddha is a crucial story for our times, a story that teaches us to stay present, love our oceans, and be ourselves while doing it. Please join us in the exciting final stretch of bringing this story to a theater near you by 2013.
Thanks for your support and see you in the water!

Praise:
“A heartfelt and honest work, whose lively, self-deprecating style enables the reader to empathise with Yogis at every stage of his journey.”
The Times of London“Great stuff with the words ‘cult classic‘ stamped all over it.”
Alex Wade, Surf Nation“If there’s anything wrong with the book, it’s that it’s too short (256 breezy pages) and leaves you wanting more…”
Surfers Journal“Yogis comes to keenly understand the continuity between the physical and the spiritual, the particularity of a life lived in the world and the lessons of the Buddha. He takes us through some vividly hair-raising experiences, from vertiginous waves to a stomach-churning episode on a fishing boat caught in an Atlantic storm. His story is also, in part, an adventure story in which the sea is a powerful antagonist, at once the siren and the ogre, irresistible and terrifying in its sheer, monstrous power. For this author, it’s a voracious and demanding lover, and he is skilled at summoning its ever-changing presence.”
The Huffington Post“Saltwater Buddha is a string of polished gems, each short chapter distilling the essence of what Yogis’ adventures taught him.”
