Blokes is a satirical series created by Erik Johnson and co-written by Read MacGuirtose. It's about two Brits who come to L.A. to make their fortunes while knowing nothing about the U.S. -- but there's also a "meta" aspect to the premise, in that it's presented as if the creators know nothing about England. That gives us the opportunity to play off of both American and British stereotypes, and poke some fun at both sides.
We've been working on the series since October 2010; we have eight episodes completely written, and lots of ideas for more episodes for Season Two. In order to film those episodes with the production values we'd like, though, we need some money to rent locations, buy costumes and props, and pay for good lighting and sound. We estimate that $3500 should be enough to enable us to shoot the first two episodes with the quality we want, and then with those episodes to show we can try to shop them around and try to get picked up. Of course, if we make more than $3500, all the better; that would let us film more episodes and/or allow us higher production values.
For more about the series, see our website, http://www.blokesshow.com. We'll keep the site there updated as well as here over the next few weeks with more information about the show. Feel free to message us or email us at blokes@blokesshow.com any of your questions, comments, or other musings/rantings you may have about the project!

FAQ

Not at all. Each and every dollar is absolutely critical for our efforts to succeed. We simply won’t reach our goal unless help comes in both big and small. So please, even if you can only spare a buck, take the time to become a backer. It really does mean the world to us!
-
Of course! If you want to support the project, just keep talking about it. We definitely need all the help we can get spreading the word out to as many people as we can. Additionally If you happen to be local to Los Angeles and are interested in helping out on the production, we still have plenty of work on both sides of the camera we’ll need help with.

Currently, we project filming to start in early October.
-
We hope to be done with editing and post-production by December.
-
Most of the episodes are about 12 minutes long. Episode 2 is longer; if Blokes did end up getting picked up for a 15-minute slot, it might have to be made a two-parter.

We’ve assembled our regular cast, but have some smaller roles that aren’t cast yet. As for crew, we could always use more help if there’s someone out there with experience (particularly with sound or lighting) and understands that compensation at this point can only come as credit and of course a portion of any actual money made during the shows run.
-
Not exactly. It pokes fun at stereotypes about England, so if anything, it’s more making fun of America. (Not that there aren’t some occasional jabs at England as well.)
-
That’s not a question. But we’ll let it pass this time.
Seriously, though, the premise of the show is that it’s supposed to be created by people ignorant of England, so the accents aren’t supposed to be perfect. Having said that, though, we realize there can be a fine line between getting something wrong on purpose for satirical purposes, and using the satire as an excuse for not bothering to get things right. We want to make sure we stay on the right side of that line, and the characters’ accents are still a bit of a work in progress.
