People have been telling stories since shortly after the basic rudiments of language were first constructed. Stories about where good hunting might be or which plants were good to eat probably came first, but were quickly followed by what the gods wanted for a successful hunt or harvest, and eventually by stories of ourselves and our ongoing struggle with our humanity.

Modern storytelling falls broadly into two major categories; books and other printed material, and the largely visual world of movies, television, and, increasingly, video games. The written word is often a solitary activity, while the visual media passively feed you the vision of the creator as they saw it.
The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company, along with dozens if not hundreds of other small-press audio publishers worldwide, seeks to draw you into the story so that a bit of your own vision might shine through and bridge the gap between the written page and the visual realm. We do this through modern acting techniques, live Foley sound effects, and stirring musical scores.

So what does your contribution provide? The science of acoustics is still pretty much the same, but the equipment needed to produce and record sound properly has advanced. ARTC strives to merge age-old oral storytelling with modern technology. This Kickstarter campaign will provide the means for us to acquire new microphones and speakers, vastly improving our live performances which, in turn, help us hone our skills in the studio.
We will unveil the new equipment at our performance of The Dancer in the Dark by Thomas E. Fuller on April 30 and May 1, 2011 at the Academy Theatre in Avondale Estates, GA.

We've been doing this since 1984 and will continue to do so as long as there are writers to write, actors to act, techies to tech, musicians to muse...and listeners to listen. And we're going to do it better than we ever have before with your help. There is Adventure in Sound!
