Update #2: Day 2: Story Time! Easter Eggs in Final Twilight

Posted on January 21

Like a lot of designers, I've managed to sneak a few "Easter Eggs", hidden little ideas or images, into FT. Most are obscure, there to make me smile and maybe a few other folks catch on, maybe they don't, oh well. But this one is just a little too fun not to share.

Commissioning on the original set of artwork began in 2003. It took several months to work out agreements with the artists who worked on the project: finding them, agreeing to terms, and getting the descriptions out. Work really got rolling in the winter, December 2003 and into January 2004, right about this time of year actually.

One of the Locations in question was called "Readmore Bookstore"; the name is one of those Easter Eggs. If you're from the Mason County area, we've only ever had one real bookstore/news stand that was, for years, known as Readmore (Or Readmor, as I believe it was called at one point) Bookstore. More recently, though its been well past ten years now, the name was changed to "Bookmark" though many of us will know it as Readmore until the day we die.

Connie Persampieri (http://www.conniefaye.com) was one of our first artists back years ago, who I am thrilled to work with again. Readmore Bookstore was one of the pieces she worked on and, pretty quickly after receiving the description turned the following in:

Pretty basic, all I provided a basic idea, made no references to the original location here at home, at all. All in all I was happy with the piece and went a long my merry way.

That spring of 2004, I was downtown Ludington for one reason or another, and stopped dead in my tracks. Over the winter, plans were made by the folks who owned the building to give it a facelift. Clean up the exterior, participate in a mural program the downtown board was sponsoring, and spruce the whole thing up. This they did over like March and April as the weather cleared.
