About this project

We are really excited to be working with the animation people at Asterisk to create a piece that will show Ros Serey Sothea performing. The kickstarter fund will go to pay for this animation as well as other graphic elements in the film. While we don't have much in the way of footage of people performing we do have an incredible collection of album covers and photos to use. We could really use your support at this stage so even if your unable to donate please pass this on to friends who might be able to help.
There are some really nice gifts involved too so please check it out...

THE STORY
Cambodian musicians crafted this sound from the various rock music styles sweeping across America and England, adding the unique melodies and hypnotic rhythms of their traditional music. The beautiful singing of the renowned female vocalists became the final touch that made this mix so enticing.
After taking over the country on April 17, 1975, the Khmer Rouge began one of the most brutal genocides in history, killing 2 million people - 1/4 of the Cambodian population. Intellectuals, artists and musicians were murdered simply for their status. Only a few miraculously survived to tell their story.

HOW FAR ALONG ARE WE?
John Pirozzi started shooting in 2005 and is about to finish editing the film. Andrew Pope and Daniel Littlewood joined the team for the last two years, the film have been moving forward greatly.
Our goal is to finish by fall of 2010 then premiere at a major film festival in 2011 and hopefully a theatrical release will shortly follow.

WHY PLEDGE? WHAT WE NEED.
In order to meet our deadline to finish the project, we need your support.
One major difficulty we face is the lack of footage of the singers/musicians. Ros Serey Sothea was a unique female singer with amazing vocal abilites. Her name is still a legend among the Cambodian people. Unfortunately we have no footage of her due to the near complete destruction of all modern materials by the Khmer Rouge.
To give her a proper tribute in the film, we would like to create an animation of her singing. We chose a song with very high and low scaling that only she could perform. Having a visual animation will also be a reference for those who have never heard her before. It will be a great way to revive her: not just a voice but a face too...
We are looking to work with a very creative animation house here in New York, Asterisk LLC, to animate Ros Serey Sothea.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
We have some incredible and unique rewards that have been donated to us by some of the individuals involved with the film. This includes music, artwork, and memorabilia you won't be able to find anywhere else.
Also, please keep coming back and checking in on our Kickstarter update page (see above). Over the three months of this fundraiser we will be adding video content and music.
Although we are asking for $5000 for the animation, we actually could use more for other aspects of the film. If you would like to make additional donations, please do not hesitate to contact us.
