"Love Can Burn" has been a dream collaboration between two writer/producers, two filmmakers, and one dynamic diva. We are now gearing up to shoot the video for the single, and WE NEED YOUR HELP! We want to produce a video that will rival the classic R&B videos of Rihanna, Beyonce, and Janet Jackson. We have secured professional camera and lighting equipment for the shoot, but we need about $5000 to fulfill our vision for the set and costume design. The money will also help fund transportation, a fire marshall, and other incidental expenses.

"LOVE CAN BURN" - DIRECTOR'S TREATMENT:

“Love Can Burn” lyrically follows a traditional R&B storyline of a love-scorned woman reckoning with a broken relationship. Though the song’s lyrics and vocal delivery convey a distinct R&B ethos, its instrumentation provides an uncanny layer of electronic/experimental other-worldliness. This unique sonic blend calls for a video that matches “Love Can Burn’s” modification of the R&B model. Narratively, I would like to follow the song’s lyrical structure using the woman vs. trifling man video model (Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”/ Rihanna’s “Take A Bow”). Visually, however, I would like to augment this story model in order to follow the song’s departure from traditional R&B.

The “Love Can Burn” video will feature Anais as a love scorned queen, who has decided to execute her ex-lover via burning him at the stake (hence “love can burn”). Anais’s performance will align with those of Beyonce and Rihanna in the sense that she will be showcased as a vulnerable yet powerful woman who decides to stand up to her man rather than cry over him. Using the queen-as-executioner concept, I hope to hyperbolically elevate this emotional tension to match the instrumentation. As a queen, Anais is in a position of ultimate power, yet this does not preclude her from experiencing the emotional turmoil that any love-scorned woman would go through. The real tension of the video will thus come from Anais’s struggle to reconcile her sovereign image with her human emotions. -- Executing her lover would restore a sense reverence and fear among her subjects, but it might also harden her inner feminine spirit and compromise her ability to love again.

The video will center around this struggle, and should read as a metaphor about the modern woman juggling her 21st century power and standards with her desire for partnership and true love. I feel that coupling this idea with high concept visuals will be particularly evocative, especially when considering the current “woman-as-warrior" persuasion of female music videos (Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro", Nicki Minaj’s “Your Love”, Rihanna's "Hard")

The design of the video will take cues from Gustav Klimt, Japanese Film, and Film Noir. The video will be shot in black and white.
