About this project

Yet Another Web Comic started out as an experiment. It lived on the shared space my ISP offered with every connection (back when that was a thing), and it was a gaudy, bare-bones HTML affair that offered a comic, nothing more. Heck, even the name reflects that: it was inspired by many "Yet Another" open-source code projects, a non-name, a placeholder.  I always figured it could be named later, if need be.

Almost five years later, and it seems to have stuck! I've been seeing increased interest in many things, including appearances at cons. Of course, you can't go to a con without anything to sell, so it's about time that Yet Another Web Comic became yet another book for your shelf.

By meeting the goal, I intend to print two books of roughly 80 pages each, full color, with roughly 150 comics in each and as much extra content as I can fit in from my five years of work. I say roughly, because years ago I did not plan the story breaks for books and the story lines don't divide evenly at the 150 and 300 strip marks. These books will be in your hands well in time for the Christmas season, even if you have to travel. That, of course, only applies to U.S. donors. International shipping is unpredictable, and every other 1st-world country gets something like 12 weeks off for the holidays, so it'll be there as soon as it can.

If the goal is exceeded, I intend to add extra pages to the book. Full color, small-run printing is expensive, and my goal is to make the book be reasonable to price at $15, so the more copies I can order the more I can afford in cost per unit, which means page count can go up. I don't want to promise any specific amount of page counts for any specific donation level, because I want to base the extra content on what I have available and what people want, and imposing page limits puts another restriction on what I can add. I will keep everyone posted, though, so you can watch the book grow!

Copies of books as rewards start at $15, and include U.S. shipping (International, please add $10. The buck is weak right now, anyway). I want to price these books at $15, but even then I'll probably ask about $5 shipping (for postage, envelopes, etc.) so if you think you want a copy (or copies) funding the Kickstarter is a win-win.

Remember that when you fund this Kickstarter, you're not just funding a book printing. You're kickstarting a career. Yes, the money is going to a print run of books, but by getting a large order of books together I am able to lower the cost per unit. This will allow me to sell books at a reasonable price and shift from the amateur artist I've been to a pro-am hybrid, where I can start attending conventions.

Thank you for reading,

--Lou

P.S. Kickstarting a career…hey, I get it now!

Nitty-Gritty

I'll have the books done soon (after I pull together and lay out the extra content), and they'll be ready to send off for a proof copy when the Kickstarter ends. Since I'm crediting large donors in the book, I need to wait until then. The proof will take about 15 days to get back to me, which is more than the delay in payment processing (Amazon holds the payments for a while). Once the proofs come back, I'll post pictures and fulfill the order, as the payment will have cleared well before then. Allowing 50 days for fulfillment and delivery puts the books in my hands first thing in December, and I will get them mailed out within a few days. Thanks to the U.S. Postal Service and the lead time for printing, I'll be able to get all of the shipping information prepared and that just leaves the signatures and Artist's Edition drawings. So, it'll be a few long days but you will have the books in hand well before Christmas if you are in the U.S.

Those are all worst-case scenario timelines, too, so the only way this could possibly make a timing issue is if I blow multiple times past my goal and have to send out several hundreds of each book. Of course, if that happens, I'll probably just quit my job and focus on the comic, so that still won't be an issue...

FAQ

  • Yes and no. No, not in the Kickstarter, because I need to balance the orders so I hit my minimum of both copies. However, I plan on ordering plenty of books to stock as well. So Yes, after the Kickstarter is completed I'll be glad to sell extra copies of any of the books, and there's no reason I won't be able to get them to you around the same time (that is, in time for holiday gifts).
